Denafrips, R2R DAC. Congratulations!!! The absolute best choice I've made for my 2ch set up. I hope you feel the same way after install and demo period

Forgot to post this but I had an "itch" for a different sound so I swapped out the LRSs for the LSi9s. Then I realized two things: 1, I had been jamming to the LRSs for two years before this "itch" came along so kudos the them! & 2, I almost forgot what it was like having a bunch more speaker cones moving air around the hifi was like! It's a more visceral experience for sure.
Now I thinking the next upgrade this cold season is going to be BIGGER (cone driver) speakers.

Big cones, or big horns! Something like this comes to mind...

I probably can't afford that LOL. So I'll most likely start with something like the Tekton Double Impact.

I've seen a few pop up near Atlanta but they are always sold in less than a day.

Yeah Atlanta isn't far from me either, ~2 1/2hrs or so. I would research the brand in detail. Many report that mostly good reviews exist because the owner goes after reviewers with lawsuits if they make negative comments.

That incident with Erin's Audio Corner removed Tekton from my shopping list forever. Too many other options. -
Interesting. I guess I hadn't read into Tekton deep enough. That certainly changes things.

I've heard a lot of speakers and listened to a pair of Tekton's once. No interest in hearing them again. Having the guy do them all (caps) while he’s in there.
Bought this one new in 79.
Installed an SME Series III Tonearm on this one.
Getting ready to sell some of my TT’s.
We just don’t spin anymore.
Did your speed problem get resolved? Doesn't the DP2000 have a strobe on the inner platter that helps it maintain the correct speed? I'm not likely to ever go after a pair. I saw a couple pairs local and was curious, but but he more I look into it, they probably aren't for me. Heck, I'm pretty happy with the 4 different sets I can listen to now. -

Still at his repair shop.
The strobe just shows the speed and there’s no speed adjustment on the 2000.
It holds rock steady at 45 but she runs a tad slow at 33-1/3.
Pretty sure it’s the caps in the speed circuit but he hasn’t gotten back to me yet.
While he’s in there, having him do all caps as they’re all original.
Last time it was in rotation both speeds were dead on.
It’s amazing what shows up after not using it for 10 years. -

Actually, there are two adjustment pots under the motor cover...at least according to this discussion from AK:

Playing around with different phonostage setups. The chrome box on the right is a little Italian Royal Device Rubina MM-only phono preamp, and on left is a Micro Seiki MTA/38 headamp for MC carts. The Micro Seiki headamp is battery powered (9V), and the Rubina runs off an AC step-down brick, so the combo is actually very quiet. Cartridge has been an Audio Technica AT32E.

I also tried a couple of SUTs with the Rubina, and a Vandersteen OL-1 headamp. All were good...just a little different. I'd say the biggest challenge was chasing down ground hum issues since all of those setups go through two separate devices that ideally need to be grounded together throughout the chain.
After running those combos for a few days, today I put my Musical Fidelity Nu-Vista Vinyl phonostage back into the chain.
I really wanted to see how the Nu-Vista worked with my Blue Circle BC3 tube preamp (top of the pic), since it has variable input impedances based on volume/gain settings. I guess it's a tube thing??? There are no published output impedance specs for the Nu-Vista, but I can say that the frequency spectrum sounds more full when the volume/gain on the BC3 is turned up a bit.
This is my idea of fun

@Conradicles .....any impressions with your Denafrips DAC?
Yes, thank you. It easily bested my Wiim ultra internal DAC.
However, I'm kind of surprised that my Yamaha CD player is hanging with the Denafrips. In this system, here is the setup:
Cambridge Audio CXN v2
Yamaha CD-S1000
Denafrips Erato
Rogue Pharaoh 1
SDA 3.1TL
The Yamaha is bypassing the Denafrips so I can do direct comparisons between the CD player and streamer.
First thing I noticed was that the depth of soundstage improved with the Denafrips. A bit lively presentation too, which my old ears like. Percussion has a bit more snap.
I'm still in the review process, probably a few more weeks. I have a bad habit of introducing multiple components at the same time 😂, hence a Hegel on the way too...

Awesome!!! That was the first thing I noticed as well, the depth of the soundstage. The detail that's been revealed in my music has been astonishing! Installed adjustable front-to-back baffle braces in the XS-8TLs. Will have a listen tomorrow when glue is cured....

And transformed the WOPL-400 transformer back to it's former straight laminate glory....

Absolutely!!!! I have been very pleased with the performance of Denafrips. @billbillw is also running a Denafrips DAC and loves it!!
I've been working on cable upgrades from DAC to processor to squeeze as much as I can from the DAC. Those aluminum end bells look nice! I'm a little concerned about the loss of shielding, though. Aluminum doesn't block RFI or EMI the way copper and steel do. You can eliminate the risk with a bit of copper foil tape from StewMac, though.Enjoying the journey while never attaining the destination. -

Interesting...It is 3/4" 6061-T6. The 1/2" walled amps I built would block a cell phone signal just putting the phone in and closing the lid. The main purpose was to hide the hardware and fix the bowed laminate. The thin sheet metal cover allowed it to sag which I'm told the laminates will hum.
1/2" thick faceplate done with WOA LEDs, just need some shorter 8-32 button heads...

I'm no expert in this but maybe you want to make sure that billet aluminum end cap for the transformer is grounded to chassis ground. Doesn't look like the bolts will accomplish that or maybe I'm not understanding how the whole thing mounts to the chassis. But maybe a couple taps at opposite corners and a couple dedicated braided copper ground straps to the chassis with ring terminals at each end and star washers.
I also found this fwiw: At typical Class D switching frequencies (a few hundred kHz up into the low MHz range, plus harmonics), aluminum skin depth is only ~0.08–0.27 mm. A remaining wall of even 2–3 mm is already many skin depths thick and provides very high absorption loss. Reflection loss is also strong because of aluminum’s good conductivity. The bulk metal itself is not the limiting factor.George / NJ
