Audio strangeness

I have a patio and pool behind my house. I had 4x Atrium 4s even spaced across the back of my house to provide audio to the patio and pool.

This season, I upgraded the center two to Atrium 8s.

So it's now like this

|--A4
A8
A8
A4--|

Each speaker is on its own 100W channel. Each A4 and A8 are L and R respectively.

The weirdness is when I move to different areas I get dramatically different sound profiles.

Center stage is of course the best. Full, rich, warm, and clear with great width of stage.

Move left or right to be on center with an A8 and it's like listening through a tube. Highs and lows are gone.

Move a little farther and the highs return, but the bass seams to quickly roll off.

I have checked polarity and phasing - everything is correct.

Anyone seen anything like this? Any ideas?

The 8 has a single/dual input switch on the rear. Whatever setting you have it on now you need to change to the other setting.

The speakers are in single channel mode and wired with a single lead.

You need to change to the dual mode. In single mode they are 4 ohm nominal. In dual they are 8 ohm. The Atrium 4 are 8 ohm nominal.

Not sure how this applies. My head unit handles 4 Ohm loads just fine.

Read the manual. I'm done trying to help as you don't want to listen.

I have read the manual. I understand the Ohm loads. I am asking how Ohm loads effect the sound issues.

The original had characters that were stripped. I was attempting to draw the straight line of speakers positions across the back of the house.

    Edge of house - A4 - A8 - A8 - A4 - edge of house
