Audio strangeness

I have a patio and pool behind my house. I had 4x Atrium 4s even spaced across the back of my house to provide audio to the patio and pool.

This season, I upgraded the center two to Atrium 8s.

So it's now like this

|--A4
A8
A8
A4--|

Each speaker is on its own 100W channel. Each A4 and A8 are L and R respectively.

The weirdness is when I move to different areas I get dramatically different sound profiles.

Center stage is of course the best. Full, rich, warm, and clear with great width of stage.

Move left or right to be on center with an A8 and it's like listening through a tube. Highs and lows are gone.

Move a little farther and the highs return, but the bass seams to quickly roll off.

I have checked polarity and phasing - everything is correct.

Anyone seen anything like this? Any ideas?

The 8 has a single/dual input switch on the rear. Whatever setting you have it on now you need to change to the other setting.

The speakers are in single channel mode and wired with a single lead.
