Read an article this morning that reminded me of my visits to this restaurant while Mrs Wilkes was still alive. If you are ever in Savannah, go to this restaurant for lunch.

Mrs. Wilkes' Dining Room - Savannah, GA
Authentic taste of Southern hospitality, serving up tradition and delicious comfort since 1943. Mrs. Wilkes died suddenly on October 31 2002 at the age of 95. Now, the fourth generation restaurant is run by her great grandson. Walter Cronkite (the old news icon) once said on the 6:00 national news that this was his favorite place to eat ever.

A line gathers each morning at 107 West Jones Street. At 11 o'clock, the doors of 107 open and the lunch crowd finds seats at one of the large tables-for-ten shared by strangers. Tabletops are crowded with platters of fried chicken and cornbread dressing, sweet potato souffle, black-eyed peas, okra gumbo, corn muffins and biscuits. The menu changes daily so regulars can have something different every day. Stop by and enjoy the special pleasure of a meal shared with neighbors and strangers.

Mrs. Wilkes’ Dining Room is open Monday through Friday, from 11am–2pm.
CLOSED: Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Christmas Day, and New Years Day.

Payment: Cash or check only, though an ATM is available on-site.

'58 Imperial Limo (Ghia) if the internet is to be believed. ;)

I don't see Imperials like these very often at all but oddly enough this one popped up today. It was labelled as: "1960 Crown Imperial Limousine by Ghia"

    MEMORIAL DAY

The remains of a 17-year-old sailor killed during the World War II attack on Pearl Harbor are returning home more than 84 years later for a proper burial.

Royle Bradford Luker will be laid to rest with full military honors in Plainview, Arkansas, on May 30, according to his obituary. He will be buried alongside his parents, including his father, who was a World War I veteran.

"As a Fireman Third Class in the United States Navy aboard the U.S.S. West Virginia, he gave his all and was killed in the line of duty during the attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, on December 7, 1941," his obituary from Cornwell Funeral Homes stated.

His burial was arranged after modern forensic testing and DNA analysis comparing his remains with DNA from living relatives confirmed his identity decades later, the obituary said.

There's a BIG restaurant here in NC. in the middle of nowhere (west of Kitty Hawk) called, Mike's Farm that serves almost an identical table spread in an almost identical atmosphere for one price per person. Extra servings were free, I thought. Maybe not anymore. I just read the menu better and see the extra helpings are free. The place was full both times we went there, but they were Holiday oriented. Christmas w/hayrides through a festive lit woodlands that is awesome. The other time was Thanksgiving. Turkey was a choice.

GREAT TASTING CHICKEN, HAM, and all the sides. Especially their SECRET recipe Mac & Cheese. That Mac. & Cheese was SOOOO creamy and delicious. :p The green beans...AWESOME too. :p

We just learned that our ABC alcohol stores send out emails to people if they sign up for them to alert people to shipments that come in or sales. There was a line this morning with a ton of people waiting for hours, they say.

Here is the email/flyer/notice. B) Who knew...

We've had an inch of rain the past 24 hours. Things have greened up nicely.

I've been watering our little yard quite often since we're in a drought.

We've gotten over 2" of rain the past few days, and our lawn is getting fuller. I had some bald spots from where I killed off some weeds, but they're healing just fine now that I put some more Nitrogen & Potasium down. I did some more research on fertilizer lately. With the new feeding levels, the lawn should prosper better than ever before.
