Go magnetic grills to really go all out 😁

I did do one of the 8TLs to try. They were 5/16 dia. These CRS would be easy using 7/16 Neodymiums.

Looked at two different beige/cream speaker cloths with an antique white card from paint store....

    48bk3178mkgj.jpg

Shot a coat of Flex Seal Max to entire interior. This is to stop the oxidation process of the formaldehyde glue of the particle board. Also makes the butyl mat adhere much better. I will put a single damping layer on tops and bottoms to take the last bit of hollow out of those areas...

Check the cure time on that stuff... I k ow it says 24 to 48 hours in normal applications but this will be sealed. I wouldn't seal that enclosure completely for atleast 2 to 3 weeks.

Can't argue with that. It's been 24hrs now. I shot like 3 coats of this stuff on the interior of a set of CX100s and it tooks a few days for the tack to go away. But the butyl mat stuck like super glue.

Wonder why Polk didnt drill and install the 4 extra fasteners on the covers. They pre-drilled the PRs however...
PITA getting them accurate with a 3/16 bit....

I guinea pigged these 8-32 brass inserts. Mainly because I want to avoid any galvanic reaction with the brass screws. They're more accurate than the Parts Express hurricane nuts. Those teeth dia. are not consistent I've found.
A 0.190 drill is perfect and they don't split the particle board or need trimming near the thru holes....

    mgro9i8gwctf.jpg

I heated the base and top with a heat gun. The butyl mat is now permanent....

2 new belts snapped on me.
It's either the brand or Polk particle board doesn't like 50 grit. 120 and took a little longer...

shot a coat of primer before wood filler. Those little pegs that held the front wood trim on were 2.5" long and one glued in, other popped right out with pliers...
Just glued it in and sawed it off...

Think I'll go with a diffent grill cloth. I guess acoustically transparent accompanies visual transparency with the linen style cloth...

To fill in the small microdimples left behind from the old vinyl removal...drywall compound and 12" blade foots the bill quickly. Ready for light sand and final primer, then paint....

Trusty mag tool made quick work of removing the pole-pieces....

    ok7npb0bns8z.jpg

Next shop visit will get 1/8 pinholes thru centers and oxidation cleaned up with some fresh focus rings...
The MW sticker applicator position at Polk must have been a DEI hire lol...

    1ylhlytrh3xm.jpg

Forgot to mention, the new grill frame dimensions are 12.625" x 19.875"

And I only have one 6511 with 0.020" suspension sag (seen alot worse). All others are good.

That wood filler stuff is crap. Wood epoxy is much better.

Yeah, think this stuff is only good for small crevices and the seams where the boards are folded together.

I've used JB Weld KwikWood for side panel veneer repairs. It's a two part putty and dries hard, can be sanded.

For clear finish you have to touch it up with various color gel stains (or mix for color match) to get a decent grain and color match. Being partially color blind I need the wife for that.

I had a wood floor repair kit once that had the basic colors to mix for a match.

Outstanding work being done on these CRS+.

Great info. I'll have to check that out next time I'm at Lowes.

Sounds like a generic brand for tadalafil 🤣

Picked up some beige spray paint to coat the frames and bought a test patch of that first cloth to place over 8TLs to see how it changes sound. Its WAF approved.

This is a better product than the Quik Wood. It cures faster and harder. The Quik Wood really takes 24 hours to cure. This one says 20 minutes, but I wait at least a few hours.

Using water, slightly wet your finger tips to knead the material. Too much water results in a real mess.

I would steer clear of the Quick Wood. I have used it many times and it doesn't harden up as well as it should. I still use it for some exterior work where a deep hole needs filling and I need ease of sanding, at least until I find some alternative that I like better that is available in the box stores.

Enough wood shop talk, how 'bout some plastic subject matter. Made both shapes to try best orientation of the SBDI, yet have quick access of X-over to test a couple different tweeter caps...

Taped a patch of this material over one of the XS-8TLs. Not bad. Maybe only knocks down the tweeter output a wee touch...

Used 3M spray. Hard part was getting it taught, yet weave aligned...

I would take the emblem, face sand it to bring out the silver, paint the heart red, and clear coat it..
