It's snowing here once again in southern New England. I'm thankful for that as the old snow was getting dirty. Tomorrow is supposed to be windy and the coldest day of the winter so far. That's nice as I'll be able to go outside without being bothered by the mosquitoes.

All our snow has melted now. Back to rollercoaster temps.

The wind is gusting pretty hard today.

Our electric bill only went up 7.00. :o

Also had a few inches of snow overnight, makes me happy my snowblower has heated grips!

Yeah, driving in the snow takes experience and practice!

I took the opportunity this morning to teach my older daughter about driving in the snow, as the roads were pretty messy and she will be driving in less than a year. :s

Talked about adjusting your driving to match road conditions, and not to trust roads covered in snow and ice...

I had some fun and showed her a bit of what I was talking about by goofing around a bit. It's always helpful when you have the twin turbo version of a vehicle that's RWD biased. :D

It's stupid cold. We are in Lancaster for an overnight stay at the Eden Resorts. Went to diner at the Harvest farm to table.

Ain't any **** here about our weather, should be 0 and were gonna see 49 today.

It's been crazy warmer than it should be this winter in WY.
That's no reason for any Californians to be moving here either.

You haven’t driven in the snow, until you drive an LLV in the snow. Worst vehicle EVER in bad weather! I don’t miss that even a little bit.

Judging from our local LLV's I'd be afraid to drive one in perfect weather.

Yeah, LLV = Long Life Vehicle. And they have by far outlived their long lives lol. One of my positions in the PO was working the postal garage parts room. The number of engine and transmission replacements in those vehicles would astound any certified mechanic and IMO should all be permanently retired from service.

When I was a supervisor in various stations, I'd sometimes have to drive a "working" LLV out to swap with a carrier and wait for the tow truck to take me and the broken LLV either back to the station or garage. The vehicles are gutless with horrible suspensions and very poor handling. Basically, a sheet metal box on a chevy S10 drive train.

I was never a carrier, so I didn't have to contend with them on a daily but every carrier I spoke with hated them. Can't imagine trying to operate one on snowy roads..

During the recent storms here parking is at a premium with no place left to put the snow. I always clear an extra spot in my driveway and told our mail carrier he's more than welcome to use it. He's used it daily ever since and has thanked me repeatedly. I didn't think it was big deal but I'm wondering if they're not supposed to park on private property without permission?

He always backs in very carefully. No danger of hitting anything as he has 2 full parking spaces to do what he needs. Glad I'm able to help.

We've been in a deep freeze for the past week. Usually when it's that cold it doesn't snow. But it's been snowing. Windy AF so snowblowing is a real treat. Can't feel the fingers, only one side of the yard where I can direct the snow and the wind blows most of it right back on the driveway and all over me.
We are expecting another 10-15 cms today but it's warming up at least.

Ahh yes! The northwest "liquid" sunshine. I remember it well. I can remember racing at PIR and watching the sun play peek-a-boo all day, and watching the downpours coming in waves. If you could time them correctly, you could make a decent tire choice: wet or dry tires. Choose wrong and it could cost you a lot of $$$

Hope everything goes well out there.

Friend of mine was called out for storm work in Jersey, he's out of Tennessee.
The Lineman will be working 100-150 hours per week during restoration... Please just drop them off some coffee to show appreciation, a horn honk also works to lift the spirits to keep them going.
They'll charge hell with a bucket off water for you's guys.

That's awesome that these guys travel to other states to help total strangers!! Kudos to them!

I'll definitely keep my eye out for the work crews but I think they're probably needed more in North Jersey or some of the shore towns.

I've lived here since '92 & never had a power outage for more than 5 minutes & that was very rare...knock on wood the streak continues.

    This was my profession.
Always loved it when folks would just say thanks for what y'all are doing. Meant a lot to us.

Hurricane Andrew (1992) was my last real crazy massive power restoration that lasted over 3 months. Saw things people shouldn't ever have to see!
We were on min. 16 hrs a day 7 days a week for 3+ months with sometimes going 3 days @ 24 hours a day. Many 2 week pay periods were way over 300 hours. Ended up walking zombies after the first 3 weeks. 28 Lineman lost their lives on the Andrew restoration.
On pay day though... lifted our spirits to keep going, never went off double nickel the whole time.

Official records had 3 Lineman kiled during the restoration but, we know of 8. The others weren't "officially" considered as they were not on the books and were just walk ons.
From memory... 28 people lost their lives from Andrew, don't hold me to that exact number as it was many years ago.
However, when we got down to Homestead FL we saw rows upon rows of semi refrigeration trailers being loaded with bodies. All were migrant workers and, were not "OFFICIAL" U.S. deaths.
