We're probably only going to get rain.

Good luck to you guys in the path of the snow and ice.

You may laugh, but please allow me to tell you a story that happened to a friend of mine. She lived in the Charlotte suburbs, in a rather swanky part of town, where you wouldn't think something like this would happen.

I found out because I was watching the news and I saw my friend on the local TV news channel. I about did a double take when I saw her being interviewed by a journalist. The TV was on mute at the time, so I went and turned it up, so I could hear what in the heck she was on the news for. This was during an ice storm that affected the area "somewhat" widespread maybe 25 years ago (give or take 2 or 3 years). While I had power at the time, she did not, nor did many of the folks around her area.

Anyhoo, when I turned up the volume, I heard her state that apparently a group of men showed up and took her unlocked generator, while it was running mind you, loaded it into a van and took off so quick, they had no way of catching them. While my friend (and her other friends in the house at the time) were only 20 feet away from the generator (running), they unhooked the cords and had it loaded in the van so quick, by the time they went outside to see what was going on, the van was driving off. Stolen license plate, so no tracking the vehicle.

It doesn't take very long to take one of these units, especially if multiple men are involved. They don't need to be your neighbors either. Just a crook(s) looking for electricity themself or just looking to make a quick buck at a time where generators are as scarce as an Asian man sporting a full beard.

The thing is, when there is no power in an area, a generator becomes a calling card for those who have one. They can be heard multiple blocks away.....all a thief or thieves need to do is follow the noise source and figure out a plan. It was/is just friendly advice, but you do you.

BTW, the perps were never caught and she went without power or another generator for another week. Just food for thought.

Here in the northwest Pa to be exact, we are going to get hit with 17-19 inches Saturday night , then another inch on Sunday. OF course Mother Nature wants another inch, go figure.

I'll be honest , I'm so over winter.

Well, it's in the low 60's here today (Long Beach, CA) but will get into the 70s in a couple of days. My in-laws are in Pittsburgh and my mom in Anne Arbor. Sucks to be them right now. Best wishes to everyone dealing with this s**t.

The weather here at my house SUCKS!!!! It's snowing like mad, we are supposed to get like 17-20 inches and then on top of that another inch of freezing rain or some mess tomorrow.

The only good thing about this weather it gives me an excuse to play with the audio systems I own.

The "worst" chance of ice for me has passed and I only had about a tenth of an inch. No power outage. The Northeast side of Atlanta still has the worst to come with a heavy line of rain coming through now and they are still well below freezing. I'm sitting at 33F.

I shoveled out in this mess. My snow blower refuses to run even though I put a new Spark plug in it so I had to do it manually with a snow shovel. I got no help from the wife or daughter, they stayed nice and warm in the house.

I got about 1/2 done and gave up. It's went from snow to sleet and I got tired of it and got tired as well. Being older, having handicaps for the last 5 years really sucks. I get tired much quicker and it bothers me. I can't work as hard as I use.

Many men have crossed over, trying too hard to do what they used to be able to.

    I'm guilty of it myself.

Now, about your snow blower. CHECK IT'S CHOKE FLAP. My lawnmower wouldn't start either. My neighbor came over and looked at it. The carburetor choke flap was gunked up. I cleaned it, and it started right up.

Snow first, then lots of ice here in Nashville. Almost 230,000 without power at one point...now down to a little over 200,000.

The Snow blower I think has bad points or distributor or whatever generates spark for it. My Small engine knowledge escapes me.

Here in Wilm. NC, we had a 1/16" of ice on the cars, and that melted really fast. Then some rain showers off and on that weren't much.

I remember those winters with those ice-caked limbs. Our City had Asplunt tree trimmers trim the whole City many years ago after one bad storm. You could hear branches breaking all over the neighborhood. Our road was icy for about a week. Nancy shoveled our driveway to get rid of the ice sheet under the snow. I told her to let it melt on its own, but she wanted it gone. :D

We got over a foot, maybe I'll measure it today since nothing is melting. Chilly out there today as I go for round 3 of shoveling this crap and a 2nd time to run the plow down the lane. Then up on the extension ladder to remove snow on the solar panels. I HATE WINTER!!!

Don't get much better this week with forecast of over night lows to be sub zero.

I went out last night to try and remove some more of this mess. It was late, I was tired from the first time out, Broncos lost so not in the best of moods and didn't finish.

Today I'm making the girls help me finish or it's not getting done. Not having the Snow blower run really sucks. I'm either gonna get it fixed or get a new one. I'm getting to old to be out there shoveling by myself especially the amount we got. We have a 3 to 4 foot mountain in front of out front entry way.a3mec2lxkk81.jpeg

All the ice at my place melted in the afternoon rain yesterday and dried before the deep freeze happened this morning. So, it's just cold here. Low tomorrow morning is supposed to be 11F, which is very cold for Georgia.

Our area (upstate SC) escaped the worst that this storm could have offered us. Maybe 3/8" of a wintery mix frozen to the ground, with not much accumulation on the trees, since much of it was sleet that just bounced off of the branches.

It amazes me that folks are complaining that it didn't get as bad as the predictions. What? Some people don't know how to count their blessings and be happy that it didn't get that bad.

Driving will still be treacherous for a stint, but I for one, am happy that we escaped the worst. The original forecast was for between a 1/2" to 3/4" of ice. Who in their right mind would be disappointed that we didn't get what the forecast was? Are they hoping for widespread and catastrophic downed trees and power lines?

I just don't get some people these days.

Happy here too. I was dreading a lengthy power outage. I am never disappointed in a lack of ice buildup.
