Don't overlook the AQ Niagara 7000. There is a reason why they all compare to it.

Going back looking at these, $12k is a tough pill, I would think one would be very happy with the 5000.

I agree somewhat. It’s a great piece of equipment but pricey. Connections are key for pricing. $12k is MSRP. Paid price can differ. This is also true for the AQ Dragon 20 amp power cable I have connected to it.

I also had the 5000 prior. It was good but the 7000 w/Dragon was a step up.

Sorry I'm late to the party and I see John has made his purchase.

FWIW I run an AQ PowerQuest 505 in the main set up with 8 components and the 303 bdrm set up with 3 components. It's not the Niagara but for my equipment these have been working just fine.

Is this your first noise reduction item that you have introduced into the rig?

I will post a longer review later, but what I can say is that I can hear space, volume(as in the size of that space) I can hear the acoustic character of that space. Imaging is far better. As Tom has stated in the past, it is like a very thin fog is lifted. Improvements in any one particular area are subtle, but across the full spectrum of listening, it most definitely is mind blowing. We build our systems in the wrong way... You can build a beautiful house, but without a foundation, it will never be what you want it to be. The power feeding your system is that foundation, and if you are going to play at the level many of us want to go, before you start spinning your wheels on gear, build that foundation first.

I've got everything audio related in my system getting it's power from the Shunyata now and the improvement was not as dramatic as it was when I hooked up the Mcintosh.

In addition to everything in my signature, I also have my pc plugged into it. My amps are still plugged directly into the wall.

In my experience, if one is expecting a night and day difference one will likely be disappointed. It's more subtle.

    Agree, it's subtle, but noticeable.

I was not expecting night and day either. The improvement.provided by the Shunyata is subtle, but cumulative. By that I mean that everything sounds just a bit cleaner, vocals instrument separation, soundstage… improved slightly, but taken as a whole presentation, once you have stopped focusing on trying to hear something different, the totality of the improvement becomes more apparent

Why not try one of the Puritan power products while you're at it? Upscale Audio has a generous trial/return policy.

If you have an emi tester watch what happens to the 120 leg you plug your pc into and switch it on. Now that is a dramatic difference and even moreso when measuring the power coming out of the back of the conditioner.

Oh, I thought you knew? 😉

    J/K

A mint condition AQ 7000, with a Brand New AQ 1.5m Dragon. It was overall more than I wanted to spend, but I got both for less than what a AQ 7000 would have cost me brand new. Don’t think I could have found a better deal for such a beast of a unit.

I’m now trying to figure out what I can do to give my shelf a little extra strength to hold the weight a little better to ease my mind. 🤓

You are in for a treat. It’s a great combination. Heavy as hell so get ready to move it. You will never look back at conditioners again. Although I feel like additional power cables may be in your future.
