    It attacked the little translucent diffusing screen in front of (I presume) the IR sensor. Mangled it. I've thought about trying some transparent tape or something across it, as a half-a##ed attempt to weather-proof it... but:
    1. Even I have my limits vis-a-vis ghetto/MacGyver approaches. :blush:
    2. Not sure that the sensitivity (or selectivity) would be trashed
    3. Not sure that the bandwidth of a random piece of transparent or translucent adhesive tape would be appropriate for IR transmittance.

    We stayed in Jackson NH just south of Mt. Washington for several days about a month ago. I would take out our daily trash to the dumpster early in the morning until this one morning I see trash scattered across the entire back parking lot. It seems a bear had gotten into the dumpster overnight and made a huge mess. That morning was the end of me being a nice guy and my bringing my trash out to the dumpster.

    I told the owner of the place that a bear had gotten in his dumpster and he assured me that it was a raccoon and not a bear as they're in hibernation this time of the year. Once he saw the amount of damage though he admitted yes it sure was a bear. Albeit a confused bear that doesn't know he or she is supposed to sleeping.

    They're close to being dormant, but it's very borderline. Mid-December is considered the "safe" date, at least up here in the Upper Valley.

    It snowed last night...
    8:00 am: I made a snowman.
    8:10 - A feminist passed by and asked me why I didn't make a snow woman.
    8:15 - So, I made a snow woman.
    8:17 - My feminist neighbor complained about the snow woman's voluptuous chest saying it objectified snow women everywhere.
    8:20 - The **** couple living nearby threw a hissy fit and moaned it could have been two snow men instead.
    8:22 - The transgender man..women...person asked why I didn't just make one snow person with detachable parts.
    8:25 - The vegans at the end of the lane complained about the carrot nose, as veggies are food and not to decorate snow figures with.
    8:28 - I was being called a racist because the snow couple is white.
    8:31 - The middle eastern gent across the road demanded the snow woman be covered up .
    8:40 - The Police arrived saying someone had been offended.
    8:42 - The feminist neighbor complained again that the broomstick of the snow woman needed to be removed because it depicted women in a domestic role.
    8:43 - The council equality officer arrived and threatened me with eviction.
    8:45 - TV news crew from MSNBC showed up. I was asked if I know the difference between snowmen and snow-women? I replied "Snowballs" and am now called a sexist.
    9:00 - I was on the News as a suspected terrorist, racist, homophobe sensibility offender, bent on stirring up trouble during difficult weather.
    9:10 - I was asked if I have any accomplices. My children were taken by social services.
    9:29 - Far left protesters offended by everything marched down the street demanding for me to be arrested.
    By noon it all melted
    Moral:

    Last Saturday afternoon, our daughter & her two kids came over to bake cookies with mom/nana. Later that afternoon (about as late as we could push it, given the short hours of daylight this time of year!), we 'hiked' (it's mostly a walk, with a bit of a scramble at the end) to a granite ledge fairly high above our little hamlet. It was a nice afternoon to be up there. On our way back down, we passed several folks going up - I assume - for sunset.

    The 681EEE in particular was a very fine piece of hardware.
    I am embarrassed to say that I only learned of the... interoperability of Stanton & Pickering in the modern era; I had no idea back in the day. :blush:

    I had a dump find SL-5 for (quite) a while. It was so easy to use, and it just. worked. No fuss, no muss, no bother. I used it extensively in my annual holiday music dubbing frenzy for a while. Ultimately gave it to the son of friends of ours who'd gotten interested in vinyl. :p

    PS Should be a 1/2" mount adapter (adaptor?) available for your P-mount cartridge, @tonyp063 -- at least on the aftermarket. :)Chance favors the prepared mind. B)

    PPS Speaking of P-mounts (and photos), this followed me home from the last NEVEC fleamarket - from the freebie table. If it's free, it's for me. Some things never change... :blush:

    The little finger-lift is half-broken, but otherwise it works pretty well. It was curated sans cartridge, but even I have a couple-three P-mounts of questionable heritage hanging around for just such an opportunity. :#

    P^3S Looking at those old photos of the SL-5, I realize that the 'turntable stand' is an early Polk Monitor Series Model 10 (unsuffixed). I had bought a pair of those, in meh to fair condition, from a hifi buddy near Boston many years back. They're... in the basement.
