I had always pronounced it "tin-EYE-tis," but my wife's audiologist says "tin-i-tis."

They picked one of the most congested spots in Metro Atlanta. I won't be going there anytime soon. I really don't care for Chicago dogs, but I do like Italian beef sandwiches. I suspect this is primarily an interest for the Illinois transplants.

What is the difference between eye and i, or are you are just showing the emphasis on the middle syllable? It is actually 'tin-eh-tus' or 'tin-eh-tis' depending on the accent of the doctor.

Long “i” vs. short “i.” Forgive my poor phonetic form. Should have used “eh.”

Saw this on Flickr today and it kinda caught my eye. This guy George Hamlin likes to take photos of trains and stations and aircraft, and by all appearances has been doing it for quite some time. His photos are generally very good; some are outstanding. He seems to focus on what I'd call central Virginia for a lot of his photography. I don't know where Mt. Crawford, VA is (it's a big state, you know, compared to puny ol' NH)... but next time I am down that way, I may have to sidle on by... B)

It's a bit south of Harrisonburg off of I-81. Did some antique hunting around the area years ago. Nice auction house there too.

ahh, I-81. That 'splains it! :)

As an aside (but not entirely), we've been spending summer vacations in recent years down near Myrtle Beach, SC. Now... one may fly from Manchester, NH to Myrtle Beach, but not with all of the cr@p that we schlep down there for a week in a condo :# -- so we drive.
Being old :# we split the trip into two days: day 1 gets us to Alexandria, VA, where we visit our son, daughter-in-law, and their cats, then we head out at oh-dark-thirty on day 2 to SC (as do the aforementioned kids, via separate conveyance).
Why do I mention this? Well, without going too deeply in the weeds, I have fond memories of schlepping from MD to NC by car in my youth. Traffic "down south" wasn't bad, even in (near) the big cities (Raleigh and Durham, in those days, en route to Greensboro).
Admittedly, the schlep to/from SC cleaves to I-95 (whereas my childhood jaunts split off on I-85, which is - still - a lovely drive from Petersburg, VA to the NC line), which was never any picnic, and is on Saturdays, when everyone's rentals begin and end... but... wholly moley ;) the traffic is hideous. HIDEOUS. Like worse (and more tedious) than the drive from NH to DC (which I call "belly of the beast" or "the mid-Atlantic slog")! :o:(
Oh, and, while VA and NC have nice state-maintained rest areas along their freeways, they tend to be hella crowded on summer Saturdays... so we typically stop at one of the many for-profit travel plazas along the way.
(and... here comes my point ) They're all more or less disappointing. Why no Buc-ees?

PS There's a billboard on the northbound NJ TPK for Buc-ees. It says something like "Buc-ees. U-turn next exit, then 579 miles". B)

Buc-ees is spreading like a growing fungus out of Texas and taking over the southeast. They will end up spreading much further north eventually. We have had something like 4 built in Georgia in the last 5 or so years. A few in Tennessee.
One thing that they require is cheap, wide open (flat) land...so maybe they won't make it to the dense mid-Atlantic and further up.

Whatever you do never stay at the Deluxe Inn in Kenly, NC no matter how desperate you may be for a room. Sleep in your car instead.
