    Don't see many of these.

    My bil had a 58 and it's the first car I ever drove. I could barely see over the huge steering wheel. The front bumper was the same as the 57 but I thought the 58 doors were longer. It also had air powered wipers which did not work well and auto dimming headlights that didn't work well either.

    I got curious, as I know that is a heavy vehicle. So, I looked up the curb weight of this versus my full sized truck. That car weighs in at the curb weight of my truck! (+- a few hundred pounds either way, based upon options and models)

    1958 GM cars went to quad headlamps. This means all of the front end sheet metal and bumpers were changed over, making these cars a one year only deal. The ‘59’s were supposed to come out in 1958 but were delayed by a year due to government regulations and styling disagreements between the outgoing Harley Earl and incoming Bill Mitchell…

    We had a hand-me-down '58 four-door Cadillac "sedan" (technically a hardtop, I would think; no B pillar) from my grandfather for a while when I was a tween (early 1970s) I called it the White Whale (it was white). Enormous car. I loved it. My mother drove it to work; I don't think she (or my father) ever much liked it, though.
    I don't think I have any good photos of it, unfortunately. It was in good condition (i.e., it looked good).

    The doors on those old monsters alone were incredibly heavy. Take extra precautions to remove all cherished body parts from the door jamb before it got shut or that meant a trip to the hospital.

    No doubt. Park on an uphill incline and try to open one of those doors! You would find out very quickly just how heavy they were.

    I know the door on a 2dr '64 Chevy II is kinda heavy. My best friend growing up had one.

    He was working on it in his parents' sloped driveway one day, had the door open, and was backing down. Looking over his right shoulder, presumably. The door corner caught in the lawn, and ripped it off the hinges. You can figure out from here how its not-insignificant weight was determined.
