I grew up in a Catholic neighborhood and heard tales of some of the Sisters with the wooden ruler across the knuckles.

No joke, I can certainly speak from experience. Our nuns had a metal golden ruler, thick too. You think they broke your hand when they smacked your knuckles. I think todays CIA got much of their torture policies from the Catholic church.

Yeah, definitely not. The book/TV show "Under the Banner of Heaven" sheds some light on some unsavoury history as well.

My friend in Spain, Michael Fuzzbuzz, had a red bike similar to that, but not as fancy. I traded him one day for a little while on my little AMF Gold Fever. The trade didn't last long once I realized I couldn't jump the ramp very well on Michael Fuzzbuzz's bike. I also really couldn't build up enough speed to do a tough skid in front of girls, who didn't seem to care either way. Michael Fuzzbuzz had really tall fluffy blonde hair. He probably still goes by that name.

    Bikes were freedom!

I have no idea what brand the bike is but knowing my Dad it was an off brand.

    Year would be 1962.

It seems as if we had the same passion for bike riding as kids, Scott. Fun times!

@skipshot12 got ya. Reason I asked is, that looks like quite the frame I've never seen before. Very nicely built.. Back in the early/mid 70's I was too young to work a paying job & I would help out at Bath Cycle Shop & I saw some very nice bicycles in the showroom.

SE Racing for me. PK Rippers and Quadangles.
After racing it was all Haro Blammo's then Dave Mirra pros.
The Diamondbacks and Redline Pro lines were well represented in our crew. There was also a few Pattersons and GJS's and one Cook Bros.

Good lawd, back then (around '76 to maybe around '82), I didn't even know any of those even existed. I just knew what the other fellas had in the hood. There was no internet back then and I didn't do magazines, so what the local boys had, well that's all I knew about.

Scratch that. One a second look, I still didn't know any of those existed until today.

After my BMX days, I got into 10, 15 and 21 speeds, along with touring bikes. Very quickly after that, I got into small motorcycles, mopeds and go carts....but I never lost my passion for cycling. Heck, I'd hit the road (and the Old Dominion Parkway) from Springfeild, VA and ride all of the way out to the George Washington National Forest (in the Shenandoah mountains), just to visit a friend of mine and go hiking.

Back then, it was real easy to tell where your friends were. Who's ever house had all of the bikes in the front yard? Well, that answered that. One day, unbenounced to any of us...ended up being the very last time that would happen...and no one realized that it had happened.
