I have no idea what this ad is selling -- but it caught my eye.

We already went through this. It's tube art done by a friend of Ken's. He posted about the artist with a link to info about him. -

Come on doc, clearly that's advertising active wear stockings. Think Lululemon for the 60s. -
@mhardy6647 it's a venerable 64 with the cool "magic eye" VU meter and the three speed manual tape transport.

@txcoastal1 , that is a found object sculpture made by David Gibney from a vintage movie reel canister that was part of the Historic Maryland Theater in the town where I live. He also used sections of an Ampex 351 tape electronics and some random tube circuitry I gave him.

There's one here in the basement!

Stay ups. I had to blow up the picture and read the text to find out what this was for -

I'd say that description better befits the Wollensak T-1500 and its kin!

They sold gazillions of these over a long period of time -- they're built like little tiny tanks, and they were not inexpensive.

(There was one of those in the basement for a long time, too... but it was in pretty sorry shape and I even abandoned the notion of harvesting the power amplifier out of it for something else).

Man, this thread has turned into a déjà vu and I am predicting the show to be brought to us by the number 1, sometime in the near future. Then I am guessing some sort of cartoon like bang?
I need a drink. An adult drink. Like, right now.

I think just about every high school in America had a few of the Wollensaks in their audio/visual departments.

Those in the AV Club ( very exclusive club 🤴) referred to them as the WoolySack.Sal Palooza

I can't say I remember a protracted Wollensak discussion before.

As @SeleniumFalcon notes - the Wollesaks were pretty ubiquitous in American education for quite some time. Crown bragged that their tape machines were "built missionary tough". Wollensaks were "built language lab tough"!
Since we find ourselves on the topic
, now seems like a good time to note that the sturdy Wollensak cassette transport formed the mechanical heart (or is it just entrails) of both the Advent 201 cassette deck and a Heathkit cassette deck of roughly the same era.

(Random internet image).
I once found an Advent 201 at the dump, but all the rubber bits had transmogrified into sticky black goo, so I was loath to even attempt to rehabilitate it. I hate working on cassette transports!

Note that Heathkit wasn't as cheap as Henry Kloss, letting their customers have two meters!

Somehow I was aware of the Wollensak name in grade school because I can remember hearing the O'Jays song "She Used To Be My Girl" and rhyming or substituting it in a part of the song where they sang something similar.

She, she used ta be my girl
She used ta be my girl
She had a charming personality
The girl was so right for me
She's my girl
And if I had the chance
Lord knows I'd take her back
As a matter of fact
Right away like today Something Wollensak -
Wonder if Steve Wozniak ever had a Wollensak.

Another Advent piece of trivia, Nakamichi built the Advent 200 cassette deck which was also the first deck to use Dolby B.
