@stangman67 Of the one pound bags of Sweet Maria’s coffee I have roasted so far, a winner was the Colombia Inza Cresta El Hato, which is still in stock.

Thanks for the heads up! I’m running low on 10speed so I have to put an order in soon. Do you have the graph saved for how you roasted it?

Roasted to full city +. I don’t use any software other than monitoring time and temperature.

    Gotcha! Appreciate the suggestion

Courtney bought me a Weber Moonraker WDT for my first Father’s Day. Completely unexpected, she’s a keeper. Inspired me to clean up the coffee bar and get it organized

Bought 5 pounds to play with as well as 20 more pounds of 10 speed blend. Been drinking it for a few weeks now and no complaints

All French Roast tastes the same because all you taste is the roast and none of the bean origin flavors. It’s a shame.

This one is a little too dark. However I do prefer the darker roasts, I find that the lighter roasts often have a fruity type flavor to them. I prefer the almost bitterness and coffeeness of the darker roasts and then add my own flavor with sugar & cream.

@stangman67 Do you think there's any super auto espresso machines that are worth a damn? Primarily for straight espresso.

There are planets of decent super auto machines. My friend has a Jura she likes

Have personal experience with a phillips machine that seemed to make pretty good coffee.

To each his own, but at what point is over-roasting the beans detrimental to taste and health?
Might as well go to Starbucks...over-roasted and over-priced.

It was my first time trying this Telluride, I just opened it. It's not my favorite for sure but I'm not going to throw away $12.

Anyone else getting frustrated by a sharp increase in coffee pricing lately? My go-to Sam's club medium roast whole bean 40oz bag has jumped from ~$15 to almost $20 recently and the quality has gone down. Not sure if it's still worth the price. Time to shop around maybe. What are you seeing from other stores or online vendors?

3lbs of DD coffee whole bean or ground for $19.99 and it's been that same price for several years now. Plenty good enough for my meager 2 cup a day habit.

I think I'm going to try Amazon's branded Columbian med roast. It's $15 for a 32oz bag. I'll give it a shot and see how it compares. Not drastically cheaper than Sam's but if the quality is better, I'll let the 'every 8 weeks' subscription go for a while. Hopefully, every 8 weeks is often enough :#

    Yeah, finding bulk, lower cost coffee may be in the future for many folks. Besides the one thing that is probably first on people's minds (we will not go there, as this is a good thread....let's not ruin it), there are other factors that are hitting the global coffee marketplace. Those include;

Growing global demand, especially in Asia (est. 21% demand growth YOY).
Market speculation and contracts with the Intercontinental Exchange (70% increase per pound since 2024).
The European Union's Deforestation Regulations (EUDR).
Red Sea and Suez Canal shipping delays and conflicts.
Labor shortages, increasing cost of labor.
Increased cost of fertilizers, partly due to Russia/Ukraine war.
    Port congestion, shipping container shortages.
Severe droughts, torrential downpours, fires, heatwaves and unexpected frosts.
Vietnam (2nd largest producer) had 20% loss of production 23/24.

Add everything up, now coffee costs more. I still have a bag and a half to go through before I get sticker shock, as I knew this was coming.

There are environmental issues too, ie: they are being forced to grow at higher elevations to maintain the proper temperatures.
When was the last time you bought from Sam's? Was it that crappy bag with the built in side ziplock? If you have the old style bags that you pull apart at the top and roll up, that was still reasonably good quality. When they changed bags, it went to crap, IMO. The beans are dry and have almost no oily sheen. The coffee doesn't taste as fresh. The side ziplock bags don't hold a vacuum at all.

Hmmm, probably about a month and a half ago. All of them were in the old style Eight O'Clock coffee bags. Duly noted on the new style bags. Looks like I'll buy one at a time, moving forward, as I would hate to just throw away stale coffee at premium prices.
