They do and they don't.
The way the speakers work the signal is connected thru the negative speaker terminals, hence the requirements for a common ground amplifier
Connecting the blade to ground is redundant but I still prefer to use it
This actually was very helpful as I was able to add the Sub Bass Drive Inductor leads directly to the Neutrik terminals.

That's what I do, makes it much cleaner on the crossover side- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.

It also jogged my memory when I was experimenting on those ragged-out CRS years back. IIRC, removing the SBDI rendered the SDA driver inoperable, with NO SDA and diminished bass output. Adding a jumper brought back the SDA, but still diminished bass. All the magic happens (Bass output and SDA) with the SBDI installed, because of the shared cab volume of the MW drivers.
...And the new SBDI's showed up just in time to wait for another weekend to run them....

Was doing some cleaning and light touch up painting in the house and decided to try mineral spirits to remove the ball-bearing isolators. Luckily it does not damage the vinyl veneer. Takes a couple doses and the glue will rub right off...

I thought about adding them under the amp and Dreadnaught, but wouldn't be able to turn the volume knob lol.
One thing's for sure, these are not going back to the 8TL configuration. The immense soundstage, imaging and clarity on all my classic jazz recordings renders the factory MTM configuration obsolete...
Here's a shot of the SBDI location...

Thanks to @Conradicles generous karma I'll be setting up a DAC next weekend and won't need to use my phone's DAC. My wife streamed HD amazon music the last couple weeks, but I can tell going thru the Fire tablet, it does not have quite the resolution the LG phone Quad-DAC does.
As an aside, I wouldn't hesitate to run a set of 2Bs with this amp and Dreadnaught combo using a 42V 8 amp power supply. I still have the 36V 6 amp power supply on these and it does not even break a sweat at LOUD levels.
Got a little more painting to do today and some tunes to enjoy on these.
More importantly, a BIG thank you goes out to @DarqueKnight for developing this design. Class D and SDA is a beautifully detailed marriage.

I have the tweeters distanced 64" apart on their centers. This seems to reproduce the best SDA for all recordings, old and newer.
I'll have to machine 1/2" length stand-offs for the crossover mountings. The 3/4" lengths didn't provide enough bite for the 10-32 hurricane nuts...

Looks just the way I like it @XSChop

Thanks Vsat. I'm working on another one. The Silver Dragon's are sounding splendid.

How could they not? Not surprised to see you using those at all. That coating on the outside is super looking. Bet it cuts RF interference to nil. I am really wanting that other case you built for the Dreadnaught... Mine has a small crack. Plastic ****.
-
I'll be keeping my dreadnaught for a summer project. 8TL's standing, I bolted the CRS+ X-overs back up with all 6502's in the slots and a 6502 set taped to the sides (looked like ****) but I'll be building a fresh set of cabs for this configuration. Only unknown is if I'll wind up using the 8TL's tweeter network, or keep the CRS+ network as is.

You guys think the SDA soudstage width would be less if I moved the SDA driver closer to the MTM vertcal centerline?
I could get a 14" width baffle this way and make them taller for tweeter height.

Would doubt that would effect the sounstage as much as positioning.
My thoughts would be so small as not to be noticed. -
I can live without the wider CRS+ soundstage but don't want less than a set of 2 B's or the 10B-SDA's.
A sleeker set of SDA towers with MTM imaging and 2B soundstage would be endgame for now.
Old School SDA...
New School....

If I make the RDO tweeter plate circular, I can squeeze the SDA driver closer to centerline. All the old POLK white papers say that the MWs were placed a "head's width" apart for the IACC to work. By default they could only get them 6.630" center to center. My ear canals are 5.7" C2C and I"m a big guy. Must have been some Neanderthals at Gallagher Mansion.
XS-3B's?

Interesting experiment would be to create an angled baffle 15 degrees like the new sda and that would also help with diffraction issues with such a wide flat baffle
Ie stereo drivers on a straight flat baffle then the sda driver on the 15 degrees portion- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -

Would the CRS+ Crossovers work in a classic set of CRS+ if a new baffle was angled at 15 degrees either side?

It would be something to mess with. The new ones integrated a tweeter to play up to 6khz I believe. The old ones around 2khz.
The bass is 180hz and under which should radiate around the speaker regardless of the baffle.
Relocating the driver at a 15 degree angle should translate to a wider more diffuse soundstage if I had to guess the outcome.- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit. -
I believe on the CRS+, the inverted SDA MW signal only goes up to 800 hz IIRC.Don't take experimental gene therapies from known eugenicists.

Not going to degree the baffle on a factory set of CRS+. Someone else with wood skills needs to step up.
Going to build a larger dia. but shorter XS dreadnaught soon....
Goal is to keep total height 4" this time to tuck in the wall unit.

Big thanks to @dkfreebird for delivering a fresh set of CRS+
I Want to listen to them bone stock this weekend and methodically perform each mod individually as I go.
They are pin/blade so just making sure I can use the dreadnaught with the factory terminals by connecting the only the single pin to red/yellow and grey/brown?

I played it safe and used wire nuts and speaker cable to the blades as well. Didn't wanna fry my amp.
The larger 8" Dia. 6061 alloy tube showed up today. Round 3 coming up soon...
Will only be 3.5" tall this time and match my ribs lol.
Going to spin out some custom Neutrik housings too...

Will the transformer generate heat?
I'm late to the party, sorry if this question has been answered already.

I dont think so. Maybe run on larger amps/SDAs?Don't take experimental gene therapies from known eugenicists.

No heat no matter how hard I've try
. I've used high current 1200 wpc monoblocks on my dreadnaught equipped sda's for many years with no issues. -
Awe man just do the po folks Polk Upgrade and put woofers in the passive spots and call it a day. LOL!!

Got two "new" sets of speakers yesterday. T-50 polks and a nice set of M7's w 2500's. Already glued the magnets on the M7's and took them both out for transport. The 3/4 ton Dodge rides a bit rough. I am kind of amazed at the sound completely stock T-50's. A little E.Q. and man. That speaker should not be so cheap! Of course I never even listened to the M7's. they got taken apart and parts ordered for right away.
-
How you like me trying to de rail your thread there @xschop?

As long as it's Polk related... blab on
lol.
