    In a past life (one I wouldn't mind forgetting, in many respects) I worked for an Oxford Univ. spin-off that was headquarted in the small nearby city/town of Abingdon. Abingdon was the one-time home of MG. While I preferred to stay at a really nice hotel in Oxford that was partly located in an ancient building, usually I stayed at a much cheaper one in Abingdon that was perfectly serviceable* but perfectly bland. Well, it had one un-bland "feature": the central part of the building was octagonal -- an homage to MG.

    Many bad memories of that short, tumultuous era of my life -- although I still quite love the city of Oxford. Our daughter did her masters degree there. 'twas quite a few years later, though. :)
