I just looked her up. Man, she was super cute and hot back in the early days!

John, I vaguely recall a previous post or two - you're a big Tanya Tucker fan, aren't you?

I have tremendous respect for her and what she has done over her career. She gets nowhere near the respect she deserves. I bought the album directly from her, as her FB page was offering the signed editions. This one will be going in a frame and hang next to the Staler Brothers, and Conway/Loretta.

She was a major prodigy back in the day, but she fell away from the Grand Dame crowd and into the outlaw scene that was coming up in the 1970's. Her affair with a very married Glenn Campbell earned her no favor either.

The Arizona Audio and Video club recently hosted a speaker demonstration of 16 stand mount speakers priced at or below $3,000/pair. Most of our competitors sent entries, including Buchardt, KEF, ATC, Sonus Faber, Tekton, Monitor Audio, GoldenEar, GR Research, Polk, and Totem. Attendees listened to the speakers throughout the day and were asked to list their first, second, and third-place choices. The BMR monitors received more 1st place votes than all of the other speakers combined, and 5 times as many as the next-most-popular speaker. You can see all the results here.

Does that automatically make them better? I'm not saying so but I've read nothing but good about them and it's enough to pique my interest.

The listeners were just regular enthusiasts going by what sounded best to them?

I'd be curious to learn more about the criteria the listeners went by for some context, you know? Maybe some of the source material used? That looks like an interesting and fun time.

Yeah that's why I wouldn't take it as gospel but even reading forum reviews of actual people that have bought them there's very little bad to read. After I got these Kappas from @daddyjt it made me want to hear a speaker with RAAL in it which is how I ended here in the first place. I'm sure the Salk Silk is great too (also designed by Dennis Murphy BTW) but it's double the price even if you get the BMRs with a Salk made cabinet.

Judging by the high scores of all but the BMR I'd have to say the people listening prefer hyper detail. Never heard the BMR though.

Definitely could be they're something that wow off the bat but give listening fatigue over longer periods? I haven't read anything like that in any of the Joe schmo forum reviews but it could be true. Trying new stuff is always a gamble without in home demo. I don't believe Salk offers that. I'm pretty sure we have a member here with Salk speakers but his weren't RAAL they were soft domes if I recall.

@SCompRacer has Salk. I've sat and listen to his. They do not have a dome tweeter, they may have the RAAL. I can tell you I could listen to his for days, they are sweet easy listening speakers. Giant eargasam!

I have the SS8's in Black Limba with RAAL ribbon tweeters, ceramic Accuton midrange, two 8" woofers, 12" passive radiators. My end all speakers.

The SS8 midrange has three options. Back completely blocked off (magnetic panels), open (a frame with speaker cloth), and partially filled or with no sound material stuffing.

They were part of his SoundScape line but were changed to SS due to a conflicting trade name.

I spoke with Jim a couple weeks ago. Salk retired and sold his shop equipment in an online auction. They were finishing the last of their orders.

This is a Salk pic of what became my speakers. Black Limba was an added cost custom veneer.

Oh man so salk is hanging it up. That leaves either prefab box through Dennis Murphy or used. I guess I spent too much time eyeing them and not enough acting.

You could have bought the company for a very resonable price and the man himself was willing to help to get you going. It was amazing that no one took him up on the offer, I though it was rather generous.
That is why he ended up selling stuff on the online auction
