Yeah, I'm glad I went with it. It changes as the light changes. It's a rarer color, different color and while I will stand out, I'm happy I went with something different.

I do plan on mildly tinting. I was going to that with my last "red" GTi, but never did.

Tint will help accent the wheels, mirrors, trim, roof. Will change the stance. You should get it.

The GTI looks great and I love the color too.

I'd be afraid to get anywhere within 12" of a curb though. I suspect that red ring on the wheels would scrape off easily. I used to drive cars with low profile tire/wheel combos like that. I guess I've moved on to less exciting vehicles.

I had these on the last GTI for almost 2 years, no curbs. I took them off and put the original wheels back on before I traded to the dealer. I may use them for Winter tires. Expensive wheel for Winter use though. I bought these straight from the dealer. They are US Jetta GLI - 35th Anniversary wheels. Called Sevilla and are 18"

I do know what you mean though, I am super anal about parking. I don't drive it a lot. The wheels on the new GTI are forged aluminum that come on the EURO only GTI - Clubsport 45. So far, very, very expensive to replace. Only the 40th Anniversary GTI's get these in the US and Canada. Called Scottsdale and are 19"

So, I hope I never have to replace them. I found them from a German only site new $891 each. Which seems insane to me. The GTI is now made is Germany again so some of the paint colors and parts are excess stock they have lying around. I'm sure that's why they put this semi-expensive wheel on a low production run of 1500 - 40th AE GTi's.

So far, enjoying it. It's quite a bit different than my previous MK7 GTi. I have a lot to learn if I want to know everything it can do. Both features and performance. It needs atleast 500-750 miles of break-in. I'm at 187 and still babying it.

It probably does scrape off, but I'd imagine you'd really have to make solid contact with a curb for several rotations. Here's one FS on Ebay.....asking $506 from a German seller.

The passenger side mirror does dip down when you go into reverse (you can set it to do that). I'd imagine that would help a lot for parallel parking next to a curb. I avoid it unless absolutely necessary, then I'm 5-8" off the curb every time....lol

I had no idea they were doing this at the time I bought the car. As they started arriving the cat is out of the bag. I just received mine a few days ago.

A nice little touch for the 1500 or so buyers. It's a mini replica of the Scottsdale wheels with real rubber. On the back is out VIN and date of production.

It's a nice little token that was completely unexpected. It's a heavy well built piece.

In 1997 we bought a "Limited" trim level Ford Windstar (don't judge us, OK?

).
A few weeks later we got a large-ish box delivered from Ford containing two fold-up camp chairs (emblazoned with the Ford and Windstar logos) in a tote bag -- all in a fetching desert dust brown color.

The van was more or less a piece of junk* that succumbed to catastrophic A/T failure with ca. 130k miles on the odo (at speed, on a freeway, late one night in Worcester, MA), putting our daughter and one of her high-school buddies in mortal peril when it did so.

We still have the chairs, and use them more than occasionally for outings -- so there is that.

* In fairness, it was quite useful during the kids' tweens and teens years, and served admirably for transport of a dorm room's worth of stuff to college(s). It would also carry 4 x 8 sheets of material such as plywood, which was handy. It was comfortable enough but not a paragon of Ford's engineering nor production prowess.

Put the Winter tire/wheel set-up on the car. Owned 5 months and managed only 1825 miles. One thing of note is the wheels that come on the GTI are forged aluminum and are very light for a "stock" wheel. I can't believe how light compared to the Winter wheels (which are OEM VW wheels). Based on flinging them around, about 8-10lb difference (the tire accounts for 2lbs going from a 235/35/19 to 225/40/18). I knew they were lighter, but actually slinging each around, I was very surprised.

Unsprung weight ftw, in the Summer.

Yeah, I thought about that. I spent what $$ could have been on a "beater" car for Winter on the new to me 1yr old Pass XA25 amp.

I keep it washed on a weekly basis and my last GTI was subjected to 6 Midwest Winters and it came out fine. It was a thought, but extra insurance, tags, jocking cars around since we really don't have space for a 3rd car and then the thought of possible repairs on an older beater......it just didn't seem worth it.

I take about as good a care during Winter as one can w/o a heated garage. Keep her as clean as possible and really only drive to and from work.

A car parked outdoors needs to be driven regularly. Partly to keep the rodents at bay. Tis the season for them to like to start finding nesting spots in warm engine bays. Mice are also pretty adept at finding their way into garages by sneaking under the garage door seal.

That's one reason I don't have a beater vehicle.

In northern New England, many folks have the underpinnings of their vehicles (esp. pickups) sprayed with what used to be oil, but is now some rather repulsive plant-based material. It smells like it's been sitting around for just a little too long in someplace a little too warm. Sort of cadaver-ish.

I use 24 cans of this. Spray it on in Sept & in April I power wash the undercarriage completely & reapply another 24 cans. Twice a year. I removed all lights, grill, inner fender wells, spare tire. It's pretty easy. It usually takes me 6 hours to do. I replace all inner fender clips with factory clips. Averages 35.00 & 200.00+ for 2 cases on eBay.. Well worth the $$$ imo

I use to use used motor oil. Apply it with brush & then head down a dry dirt road & let the dust settle on the undercarriage. Works like a champ

That is what I use on my Wrangler here in Illinois. Your process is waaay more thorough than mine, but I still get excellent results and am sold on it. Four cans once a year is all I do. No disassembly. Gonna knock it out here in the next week or two.

They have a black version now, too.

I may try the black next time. The one pictured is kinda clear in color. You don't really notice it as you apply it. Seems to work well in the last 3-4 years I've been using it here in Maine. Roads are covered with salt & calcium bad

Lanolin-based -- that's the stuff! Well... similar at any rate.
Smells narsty.
Our son-in-law bought a 5-gallon pail and religiously sprays their vehicles every winter.
Now that they have a Tesla, though... I am guessing he won't do that one this year.
