Tesla sells (only) direct, AFAIK. I really don't know how they get away with it -- but then again, I don't understand how Musk gets away with most of his shenanigans.

When I bought my 2011 Ford Fiesta (then a brand-new model -- spring/summer of 2010), I configured it, priced it, and ordered it online. I think I got one phone call from our local dealer (whom we used extensively when we lived in MA because they were close to our house, and very good) just to establish the connection, and then they called me again when it was delivered to them. I then went over, paid for it, and picked it up. It was a terrific experience, and a great little car.

Since I configured it myself, I added a few arbitrary touches -- the most ridiculous of which was some interior lighting thing that I called mood lighting. It had little electroluminescent strips here and there which could be set to several different colors. :# Completely hokey, but I did like it.

    tidz3m1xirmg.jpg

It was, and still is, a great car. I bought it with a 5-speed, so it's still going strong. We gave it to our daughter & son-in-law after we moved to NH, because 1) they needed a car and 2) it was not very good in the winter on our dirt road. Their road is paved. :) It still gets 40 mpg and it must have about 150k miles on it now. It also, amazingly, looks new.

The car came off the truck at the dealer Friday. I pick it up Monday. Here's another photo. Not my car, but the color I decided on. Monday can't come soon enough!

I like the color Brock. I drove a Wasabi green scion for a long time and grew to really like the color.

    Congrats!

Or primer grey... I just don't get it, but MAN is that color (or lack thereof) popular these days!

    Sweet ride Brock! It's Monday!

There's that series of (perhaps) military-inspired hues that I call phlegm colors.
The phlegm beige is outrageously popular on Toyota trucks. :#

    uvhcwcf4r7or.png

There's also a pretty popular phlegm grey (Toyota's got that one goin' on, too) -- and Subaru has their own kind of sky blue phlegm that I see on a lot of Crosstreks. B)

    4iwh1djbc5lx.png

Needless to say -- if one's own sputum is sky blue for more than four hours, one should consult one's doctor.

I am kind of glad my Crosstrek's red.

I'm kind of liking the new non metal flake, non pearlescent colors. Sort of reminds me of the enamal/laquer days of my youth.

I'm here. Just got home. Even doing everything on-line it still takes a good hour and half to get in and out of the dealer. I also went on a test drive since I hadn't seen or driven the car. I snapped a few haphazard photo's. These will have to do until I get some time in the day light.

Car had 7 miles on it, now it has 50 after the drive back from an out of town dealer. Stopped for dinner as well.

I am very, very happy with the color it's metallic and changes as the lighting changes.

Very, very happy with the car.

@Clipdat FWD from what I understand. I think you have to move to the R for AWD.

So far so good. Still learning all the tech and getting used to using a "virtual cockpit" of information. Still in break-in mode so it'll be awhile before I really push it.

Thanks for all the kind words. Automobiles are a personal thing & some wouldn't be caught dead in a GTI. I have owned 6 of the 8 generations of GTI's. This being the 8th and final gas powered most likely. 9th generation GTI will by all accounts be electric.
