I think it's a black and white cat thing. Zappa used to do something quite similar -- if you petted him, and then stopped, and if he felt that he had received an insufficient number of pets, he would reach up and tap you to indicate that the wise human would resume the pets.
I tried a few times late in his life to photo-document this behavior, but only sort-of succeeded with one brief video... which, yes, I did upload to YT. Since it's a video, it's non-compliant for this thread

I wonder if you open the black box with the two tubes on it, if there's another, slightly smaller black box inside?
