The red supply and take up reels really compliment the two tone greys of the deck. There's a mini-cottage industry of making custom metal and plastic reels available. Also the "spin-off" type of aluminum NAB hubs are popular.

Cool Ken. If you could post up some of those cottage companies, that might help some of us sitting on the fence about R2R's.
Part of the whole vintage thing is finding parts to restore or repair. The more companies we know about, maybe the more will take up vintage gear.HT SYSTEM-

Yes, and crazy 'spensive they are, too -- i.e., kind of upscale cottages

@tonyb, the small supplier of tape recorder parts and accessories that I've dealt with is https://nagravox.com/collections/parts-tools located in Australia. They have an extremely wide assortment of available parts, mostly for Revox machines. They have upgrade kits for just about any necessity, motor run capacitors, motor bearings, lubrication, transistors, VU meters, coupling capacitors and alignment tapes. In my opinion the Revox A77 and B77 are the two best choices for someone who wants to be able to get "under the hood" and really maintain their decks.
The other reason I say this is that the Revox service manuals are second to none. It is completely thorough, descriptions on how to remove every major component, beautiful drawings, tutorials on how each section works and exploded parts diagrams. And schematic drawings on each subsection with a parts list. Sometimes I just read it for general appreciation. There's also a highly respected Revox service company called https://www.jmtecharts.com located in Nashville run by Jim Clark who used to be head of service for Studer. If you just want someone to go over a deck and bring it to factory specifications this is the person. He also sells completely reconditioned decks, A77, B77 and some Revox integrated amps and cassette decks. He's also written a very practical handbook on the A77 and how to troubleshoot and repair most problems.
I hope this is helpful. -
exploded describes what usually happens after a while whenever I work on tape transports.
