Really, what the hell is that stuff?

This Steve Hoffman mastered single pointed out stark differences between speakers and amps tonight....
....but very little audible difference between the headphone amp in the ma9000 vs. Rs-1022.
Both using the ma9000's phono stage.
🤔very interesting -

(sort of) Apropos of the picture above: My son & his (fairly) new wife recently bought a townhouse in the DC suburbs. It is pretty clear that they are now officially settled in, judging by this photo he sent us yesterday.
That is in the kitchen.

It appears to be a dbx 20/20. -
I ordered some hard to find transistors from Little Diode (really good company) in England and in tracking the Royal Mail the package has reached their hub in Langley near Heathrow air terminal so I looked to see what the facility looks like. Here's a photo:

^^^ I think I see the Ark of the Covenant down in the lower right.

Or, maybe Rosebud?

Here's a photo of Magic Johnson enjoying his music (record handling aside).
Do tell....not much air around that gear, vintage gear yet, known for throwing off some heat. Magic could afford it anyway should something go south. Cool pic anyway.HT SYSTEM-

How do you feel about all the DBX gear back in the SDA days? Noise reduction, dynamic range expander, etc type stuff.afterburnt wrote: »They didn't speak a word of English, they were from South Carolina.

Just got back from a sad day. My father-in-law passed away due to complications from COVID. I took his name out of the photo of the medals and other patches and ribbons he earned in his 26 years in the USAF. I believe the Distinguished Flying Cross he earned in Korea was the one he was most proud of.
He never minded talking about his experiences, but didn't brag about them or bring them up unless he was asked. He was proud of his service and earned his place in the National Cemetery in Biloxi, Miss.
-
Sorry for your loss. I feel its a loss for the entire country. That is an impressive array of medals. That Distinguished Flying Cross is certainly something to be honored and proud of.
RIP brother.

Very impressive shadow box,Jimbo.
From the insignia it looks like your FIL was an E-8.
I had to look up what title the USAF gave to E-8. Looks like "Senior Master Sergeant"
Article mentioned this tidbit:
" Because public law allows only 2 percent of the enlisted work force to be in the grades of E8, the SMSgt promotion system is highly competitive "
2 %.
Yep, pretty impressive Jimbo.
