By the way, what effect does a “non common ground” have on ones audio system?

Unless you have SDA's nothing. Because of the SDA's inter-connect cable a non common ground amp can see a direct short and let the magic smoke out. It can also let out a very loud squeal. -
I’m sorry pitdogg, you’re speaking to a mere common folk in these lands. I’ll see what an SDA is before replying. It looks bad though, and heaven forbid we lose the magical smoke!
I watched a few cop cars lose the magical smoke- not pretty. -
Wait, it makes KISS appear!? Hellz yeah, sign me up! -

Not so fast! The "squeal" part is you backstage.....like a pig, etc.

Yikes! I’m good on the Deliverance thing.
Okay- stereo dimensional array- I don’t think I have that in my old Onkyo receiver. -

SDA is a type of Polk speaker. It doesn't come from other electronics like your receiver.
Although I did once have a car that came equipped with Star Trek®. -

@fish357 , what part of the US are you in? I saw your budget, but what speakers are you going to power with a new amp and how loud do you want to be able to go? -

I’m in Indiana. @teekay0007 introduced me to an Adcom GFA5503. Was able to pick it up for under $600, including shipping.Yikes! I’m good on the Deliverance thing.

This is the first home audio amp I’ve ever owned (when it arrives.)
I’ll use that for LSi25’s and an LSiC.
Still looking for something to drive the LSi7’s.
You guys are all great, should’ve stumbled on this forum long ago.

So you are wanting a 3-channel amp then for the fronts and center? If so... check out this Acurus 200x3. Well liked amp. More than enough power. 3 channels and under budget. The add says he is even open to offers to include free shipping. And thats a heavy amp.
No affiliation.

Pretty amp. Huntington Beach isn’t bad either.
Thanks for the lookout. I’m probably going to save my pennies for a few before I jump on the next good thing.
Actually, the 5503 is a three channel, was wanting a two channel to drive the 7’s.
@CH46E - By the way, you asked how loud I want to be able to go, is that even a question? If it’s too loud, I’m too old.
110-120db is a good start. (: -
You'd better have an arc welder for an amp...

They probably have a .5 ohm swing in them somewhere. It looks like he was using Aragon amps. -
Think a pass labs x250 would fit the bill? Or a gfa-555?

I don't know what the minimum ohm load is for those amps. Anything rated down to 2 ohm stable with 1 ohm swings should do it.
This is the specs for my Hafler XL600. I feel pretty good about that 1 ohm rating when driving my Infinity's. I know its not as nice as some of the amps you listed (Pass and McIntosh) But I think it sounds great. I'm pretty sure it would best the Adcom. Don't get me wrong here. I love Adcom amps.

He's about an hour north from me. He always has several Infinity speaker sets for sale, along with extra ribbon and EMIT tweeters. Also has some Genesis and Ohm Walsh stuff.spongebobsquarepants wrote: »"This may not matter to you, but it does to me for various reasons, many of them illogical or irrational, but the vinyl hobby is not really logical or rational..." - member on Vinyl Engine
