It's time for some democracy. This is unofficial but will be sent to the Polk higher ups to show that this is what the forum wants, for them to consider.

If you would like to be considered for moderator privileges say so in a post in this thread.

Once we have that we are going to start a new thread which will be a poll. Votes will remain public so that we can make sure troll accounts aren't voting. Must have 100 posts and be an active member for your vote to count.

I don’t think this is a proper way to do this. Should Polk select from one of the members for the moderator post, I believe that individual should remain anonymous and unknown to the rest of us.

I don’t think we need to be having a poll forwarded to the powers that be telling them what they should do. Let’s just continue to police ourselves as we have been doing and get back to our regularly scheduled banter.

Any way to keep it anonymous invites trolls to create accounts and vote. Anonymously.

I agree. We don't have the tools to police at all. What we do now is call a guy that knows a guy that might get back to you tomorrow.

Prima facie, I don’t think any forum can be impartially moderated by an insider.

Moderation has worked best when it has been people like Justin, Patrick and Ken; otherwise, you end up with brown nosers and insider cliques. Paid employees, some full-time, some part time; but does Polk want to pay a 40K salary with benefits for a moderator (and in 2020, 40K ain’t much, but it’s probably not far off the mark)? In this world, possibly not, but Sound United has mainstream brands like Denon and Marantz, with a Twitter, FB and Instagram presence. They take social media seriously, so they are already moderating such media successfully, more or less.

There are others that could “possibly” fulfill the role that are members, but... IMO they would have to forego any and all political statements, even thinly veiled statements (including in their signatures) and... they would not be able to perform “take-downs” of obnoxious trolls in public. Otherwise, CP would not be fulfilling its role as an open forum for end users of a world class brand.

In any case, the notion of a CP member with moderation privileges, who can read PM’s between other members, is kinda creepy.

    🤔

    Moderators can not read PM's.

A member moderator should have edit of post/locking/deletion of thread permissions, as well as temporarily blocking members causing issues from posting, but any temporary/permanent bans should be handled buy someone drawing a paycheck.

It is also why the member must forever and always be thick skinned and anonymous.

I just think anyone appointed from within should be anonymous so as to not become a divisive figure to the community. Jesse is one of the most fair-minded people I know, but a known individual, regardless of who it is, could lead to more problems than it solves, and be worse than the issue we are trying to solve.

I think of Jesse like a brother and in no way want my post to be seen as anything other than wanting the best for the community as a whole. Jesse would be great in such a role. I hope that if Polk decides to appoint anyone to such a position, that it remains a secret.

Ideally it should be an impartial Polk employee who isn't a regular poster.

If that's not possible then Jesse could take it on, as I'm fairly confident he's mature enough to separate personal feelings from moderator duties.

If it were an insider, ignoring the caveats stated previously, one person who has shown extreme dedication to the sport (or is it a hobby, or possibly an obsession, or even a religion?), and from whom I’ve never read a single foul word written from his keyboard, is @mhardy6647.

Just remember how Ken was always removing posts he didn’t like. It was a real PITA, and not at all helpful. Sure, a mod is useful when a spammer hits, but moderation as done before is unacceptable.

IIRC everything he removed were rule violations or things that served to represent the brand in a negative light, nothing to do with his likes or dislikes.

I don't care if a mod reads my PM's in such as I would openly say what I feel about someone or something openly.

Hello all, after today's attacks we will be having a discussion tomorrow. As most of you know, there has not been a moderator since March when Ken S left and the Forum hasn't burned down. It does not look good for us as a company to have this on our walls, so we will be acting on this.

Also, I will keep this discussion top of mind tomorrow and the days going forward in consideration if we do choose someone from the Forum for moderation.

Just saw the attack threads for the first time. I'm all for having a backup plan to quickly react to this, and would support any member that volunteers their time to stamp it out.
