My Seiko kinetic watch. Not sure on model. I need to get the capacitor swapped for a battery, but I keep telling myself “that’s $50 you could put towards audio gear.” :) The gold piece that goes over the date on the right side fell off, and got stuck up in the top. I want to get it out, but I need a special tool, and once again, that’s $30 I could put towards audio.

Dang boy, you're almost as hairless as Joey...

  • Just curious. To those of you that have self winding watches, do you use an automatic watch winder? I don't wear my Tag Heuer Carrera Calibre 16 every day, and sometimes I will keep it wound using an automatic watch winder. Sometimes I just let it wind down and I rewind it by hand when I want to wear it.5vw3kgh385qb.jpg

I use a watch winder most of the time. I have one similar to yours above, and also have a modular system so that I can add to it (currently 4 modules), instead of buying yet another watch winder!

At first it was kinda cool, in a Rube-Goldberg kinda way. But now I'll just manually wind the one I want to wear that day. If I wear it consecutive days, it'll rarely require winding.

In fact, since I've moved into the new house, I have yet to plug my watch winders in!

To use a watch winder, or not, is about as intense a discussion as are cable discussions on this forum, I might say!

Joey_V (or anyone else who might know), my Breitling Super Ocean from about 2008 has died. Any loose guestimate on what I might expect for a repair/ tune up to cost? I’ve heard anywhere from 600-1200, which is quite the range, and I don’t know why it stopped so I don’t have any specifics as to what’s wrong.

I'm like you. If I wear it consecutive days, it doesn't require winding. It's only if I let it sit for 2 or 3 days. And I agree with what you said about "winder discussions". I thought I would stir the pot a little. :D I would never bring that subject up on a watch forum. Politics is easier to argue than watch winders, and cables too I would add! :)

I use a Wolf Roadster winder regularly. It has very customizable settings for each watch, including an adjustable start delay, which I feel is the best way to make sure your winder is not constantly keeping the watch in a fully wound state, but somewhere in between. I've had it for roughly 3 months now, and have been very happy with it.

I had a SuperOcean serviced and polished locally a few years ago. Nothing really wrong with it, but needed refreshed. Scratches and such, and requiring a little more effort to wind.

Cost me 6 hundie! It did come back looking like brand new though!

One reason as to why my Emergency, which needs a battery replacement, is still in the closet!

It’s expensive for the nice watches. Get serviced. My Fortis needs a service but it’s $750 (ETA 7750 movement)

I invested in basic watch tools this year, including precision tools, case openers, and a crystal press.
I have those too, but I wouldn’t open my expensive ones. Great for Seikos invictas etc. but I’m not touching the omega.

Come to think of it, I’m due for my service.

I have 2 winders. One is a generic Chinese made one from eBay that winds 3 watches. The other is an orbita! You know which is like better.

I don’t use the winders anymore though, my wife says that displaying the watches just begs for trouble so now my watches hide in the closet

Very nervous - about to fedex my Omega back to their service center in FL to have my full top and bottom service done. Don't like mailing a $5k watch...but excited in the same token.
    fingers crossed for me folks

I was nervous when it took them 5 days more than they said to have my Tag fully serviced. I kept thinking did it get lost, did they find something majorly wrong with it. When I received the call that it was in I was very relieved.

So I had been wanting a bronze watch for a while, and intended to buy the Tudor Black Bay Bronze, but after an unfortunate issue with my new Black Bay GMT, I was soured on Tudor, so instead I snagged a new Oris Carl Brashear limited edition chronograph in September in anticipation of a trip to Jamaica in December. The first pic is what the watch looked like the day after we arrived in Oyster Bay. The next pic is what it looked like just 6 days later. The entire time we were there it was constantly changing. Totally won't be my last bronze watch!
