It will be a good day tomorrow... my speakerwire cherry will be popped

So my local dealer is coming in tomorrow to bring in several speaker wires, but mainly I'm interested in the Audioquest Oak. I will finally get to listen to what happens when the hanger wire is replaced by something with some semblance of a speaker wire.

Also, another cool thing I get to do is he is bringing over a Rotel RB1590, their mega-amp. We will be doing comparisons between the RB1592 and the Classe M600.

Should be fun fun fun

Will post some impressions a little later.

Yay. Looking forward to your thoughts.
Dunno much about AQ other than the Rocket 88, which I really like.
    Have fun!

I started out with Audioquest Slate biwire cables way back when which I paired with my old Infinity Reference 60's. They were good value cables, but much more humble @$60.00AUD/meter. I've got mixed feelings about active cables, but i'll be interested to hear your impressions when you get those snakes in your system.

Not a big fan of active cables myself but some seem to really dig them. Why not ask Skip for a pair of WW's to compare with ?

Is that the only brand your dealer carries ? Regardless, I have no doubt the AQ Oak will spank your current zip cord.

Hopefully with Joey's permission, may I ask what you guys do not like about the DBS method sound? Apologies if considered too far OT.

Well, start with AQ's reasoning for using it to begin with.

•Insulation, and any material within a conductor’s magnetic field, is a dielectric whose properties will affect the integrity of the signal. When the dielectric is unbiased, it causes different amounts of time delay (phase shift) for different frequencies and energy levels—a major problem for very time-sensitive multi-octave audio.
•AudioQuest’s DBS creates a strong, stable electrostatic field that saturates and polarizes (organizes) the molecules of the insulation. This dramatically minimizes nonlinear time delays and reduces dielectric-induced smearing of the signal, letting sound emerge from a “black” background.

Theoretically, they may be right. If so though, how can other cables allow for a very black background without a DBS system ? I hear no smearing of sound with my cables and I have a very good black background also.

I'm not saying there is anything wrong with it, just that I'm not a fan of introducing another electrical component into the signal. I feel a good cable design is a good design and should stand on it's own. Otherwise, to me anyway, are DBS systems simply trying to cover up a poor design or quality metallurgy used ? Maybe, maybe not, don't really know for sure.

Some things in audio are measurable, when scoped you can easily SEE differences, but whether that falls into our audible ranges of human hearing is another subject. Like everything, try it and see if it floats your boat.

Audio metallurgy cables, of which I have a few, have magnets in them to basically arrive at the same conclusions AQ does, just a different way of handling it. Do they sound better than regular cable ? Yeah, but once you get into the better lines from various brands, whatever they are doing sounds just as good if not better....without magnets or DBS systems. So my thought process is, are DBS systems there to cover flaws elsewhere in design or quality materials used ?

In the end....who cares, if you like it....use it and be happy. :)

Thanks @tonyb . Seems reasonable. In practice, I did like the bi-wire Rocket 88 sound - dynamics especially - on the Ushers, Revels, 703's. Though, in the end, I preferred MIT S3's and placed the 88's in the HT front three (the purpose for which they were purchased). I tend to spend little time wondering about what the AQ DBS or MIT network boxes are doing and more time listening. :)
