I wanted to mention I was able to play the SDA SRS with the C Coil (.15 DCR) on a cheap receiver up to about 80-85 DB without any type of issues.

    Little update

"The speakers sound spectacular. Much more open and detailed than with the original crossovers, and they really open up the music. If they will improve as the new parts get conditioned & burned in there won't be enough superlatives to describe them! To help accelerate the burn-in tomorrow the tuner will be hooked up and kept on when not using the CD player.

Tomorrow I may try them without the front covers and the internal light dialed up. When seated I may be looking right into the windows.

You have made a great speaker exceptional and resolved the problems with capacitors at or beyond their life expectancy, and the "old" technology being outdated.

Thanks for putting this project together. "

    200 hour update -

A tuner was used to run the stereo system for the past 10 days with little "off" time, passing the 200 hour mark yesterday.

When now playing the same CD as in the first few hours the soundstage is much broader and deeper, and the richness and detail in the material is substantially increased (at least 30% to 35%).

The system now shows how many CDs are not recorded with a lot of depth and richness to the material. Those CDs with "depth" to the recording really come to life. The best example is with triangles on one recording where the strike, resonance, and decay of the tone is real and "suspended in air." The tight control over the bass now also brings out nuances that were not even heard with the original crossovers.

The speakers sound better than anything I've ever experienced! Thanks for making this happen, and for all of your time and effort. Let me know if there I anything I can do to help with your future projects.

Definitely man, I just ask to mix it up how it looks and is constructed. Maybe we can talk up on a cool design for it :)

Thank you for the compliments! :)

    Hey Trey
Would these upgrades change the s/n ratio , sensativety and frequency response etc?

Technically speaking, no, but you can generally see small differences between stock and modified crossovers. It is within the specifications of the speakers.

FYI, speakers do not have a signal to noise ratio spec.

+1 DSkip, I would say the signal to noise ratio on stock crossovers is 100%, It receives a signal and outputs noise... ;) heheheh

Not sure if anyone else has noticed this but the use of the Clarity MR caps took the longest to settle in comparison to other caps I have used, (Sonic, Solen)..

Of the four sets of crossovers Vr3 Mods has done for me, the most recent set, using Clarity MRs, took by far the longest to burn in -- over 300 hours. There was significant improvement at the 250 hours point, but somewhere north of 300-325 hours my SDA SRS 1.2TLs really blossomed, opened up. An amazing experience! :)

I remember when the MR capacitors on my Super Towers were breaking in, me and @lightman1 were here enjoying a few glasses of alcoholic beverages around Thanksgiving. We were going through the paces on the Super Towers and it was like a switch was hit, they simply blossomed into this whole other dimension of insanity.

Ok, after many designs and a lot of thrown away pieces we had to find a handle design that worked. We went with a throw back of the old but more substantial, milled from 1" wide, 1/2" deep aluminum

This will come together quickly, everything gets painted soon and everything will be pre-wiredxe38273ab06j.jpg
