I don't think Polk management is aiming for any particular age group here. The problem is they aren't thinking at all.

Polk is trying to market towards the 'younger' generation, but it doesn't seem to work. I posted my concerns around this horror of a forum on their Facebook page, and my comments were happily ignored.

Until Polk comes out with a phone the younger crowd will never be their customer....plain and simple but even then Polk has missed the bus.

Attention fans of Vintage Polk Speakers!

Like many of you, I really dislike this new forum format. So much so that I'm willing to start a new website with a forum for the discussion and sharing of information about vintage Polk speakers. It would be a website designed and run by me so it could be tweaked to whatever works best for us vintage Polk speaker enthusiasts. The new website would NOT include all the other forums that this website provides.

This is just a feeler to see how much interest there is for this. My question is:
If I build a new forum for vintage Polk speakers like we had before will you participate in it?

The forum I'm proposing isn't intended to interfere or compete with Polk Audio's website or forum in any way. I though about starting a new topic about this but I don't want to appear to be disrespectful of what Polk provides us now.

    Thanks for your input.

Any format that DOES NOT have a 'What are you listening to" thread. What a post w h o r e thread that is. :)

I guess it is the lack of audio discussions here that prompted that outburst.

Well Fox, it's audio discussion that doomed this place. Why ? Because audio discussion entails more than just Polk products. Can't have that now can we ?

So we get a dumbed down over scrutinized, fisher-price forum for the kiddies who don't know what they don't know and have a fistful of mommy and daddy's money.

Audio discussion, be it Polk brands or not, entices people to up their game....move up the Polk line and in some cases out of the Polk line. It's the "out of the Polk line" I think some have a problem with.

Comes down to how you view the forum and it's purpose if you ask me. We, the long time members view it as an audio forum. Polk probably views it as a marketing tool for it's own products. See the inherit conflict ?

And yet no Ph.D.s? Just a JD, whoever said Lawyers were smart? Certainly NOT I! lol

    One Million Lawyers

Words and Music by Tom Paxton

Humankind has survived some disasters, for sure,
Like locusts and flash floods and flu.
There's never a moment when we've been secure,
From the ills that the flesh is heir to.
If it isn't a war, it's some gruesome disease.
If it isn't disease, then it's war.
But there's worse still to come, and I'm asking you, please,
How the world's gonna take any more.

    [Cho:]
In ten years we're gonna have one million lawyers.
One million lawyers, one million lawyers.
In ten years we're gonna have one million lawyers.
How much can a poor nation stand?

The world shook with dread of Attila the Hun
As he conquered with fire and steel.
And Genghis and Kubla and all of the Khans
Ground a groaning world under the heel.
Disaster, disaster - so what else is new?
We've suffered the worst, and then some.
So I'm sorry to tell you, my suffering friends,
Of the terrible scourge still to come.

    [Cho:]

Oh, a suffering world cries for mercy.
As far as the eye can see,
Lawyers around every bend in the road.
    Lawyers in every tree.
    Lawyers in restaurants.
    Lawyers in clubs.
    Lawyers behind every door.
    Behind windows and potted plants,
    Shade trees and shrubs.
    Lawyers on pogo sticks.
    Lawyers in politics.
In ten years we're gonna have one million lawyers.
How much can a poor nation stand.

    In spring it's tornados and rampaging floods;
In summer it's heat stroke and drought.
There's Ivy League football to ruin the fall,
It's a terrible scourge without doubt.
There are blizzards to batter the shivering plain.
There are dust storms that strike, but far worse
    Is the threat of disaster to shrivel the brain;
It's the threat of implacable curse.

Actually, the list of qualifications looks pretty standard for Business/Corporate types. What would be MORE interesting is how many came from "money" originally and how many did NOT.

What would be nice, is at least one of them had a background in Audio.

They do travel in their little clicks. One joins, and the others follow.
    Very common in Hospitals/Healthcare too.

  • Bummed to see this place still sucks, much as the people would like to change that.

Polk CS, are you listening? You're aggravating your most loyal customer base. Not only have my visits here nearly stopped, but so have my visits to the main Polk Audio site, especially with the axing of the vintage product information. Do you not see the problem with this? It's reduced opportunity to introduce old customers to new products, create a buzz over new products, get and keep people talking about those products.

Beyond that to some (at least to me) it's an indication of a fundamental shift in thinking, that your customers aren't actually important to you anymore and makes me hesitate to recommend your products to others. Multiply that times thousands of people, calculate the waterfall effect created by that and suddenly someone begins to wonder why sales are poor.

Maybe I'm completely wrong, it wouldn't be the first time, but you are alienating the people your company was built on. Sure there may only be a handful of people vocalizing their concerns but I guarantee for every one speaking up there are a hundreds of potential customers that shrug and move along. I can tell you from experience I choose to do business with a company who'd website is open, inviting, and most importantly easy to navigate. Neither the forums or the main site fits that criteria anymore.

    Sincerely,
Someone who used to be a fan.

Thanks. I really didn't think there would be much support for another old school forum but it didn't hurt to ask. As the old guys like me drop out of this forum, what will be left is the facebook crowd that probably prefers this format. They are in the age group that are more likely to be buying the new Polk speakers than just wanting to talk about the old ones. Maybe that was the plan of the powers-that-be all along.

Yeah, time to move on. Unfortunately with the lack of traffic to this forum I will probably spend less time here. I don't find the need to check the forum more than once a day. Honestly the less I am involved with this forum the less I am interested in Polk in general. It's kind-a weird, but there seems to be a correlation. So I will "move on" to other forums and perhaps other brands.

I can totally relate to this as well . . . How can I earn another (useless) Badge??

Echoing Tony's comment above. This age group is fairly "fickle". If it's popular with the over 30 crowd it is PHASED out by those under 30. Take FACEBOOK for example. Among those my daughter's age or a little older, it's getting a BAD REP because PARENTS are USING IT! lol

So, POLK, be careful what you ask for, because trying to be "young" is a losing battle, you'd have to change this forum EVERY SIX MONTHS and you'd still not be cool enough! lol

Short attention spans, dozens of fads, 1000s of people in marketing tweaking trends endlessly; CREATORS OF DESIRE! You do know that you have to instill needs and wants in people they didn't know they had, right? And you have to keep doing that OVER and OVER and OVER again?
