What's rare, the subwoofer? Does the crossover take out all midrange on that thing? Pretty interesting, using the bottom half of an RTA12 as a subwoofer.

LF 14s are the rarity as they have a crossover setup that passes the highs onto a satellite set, can be used in stereo if you have two of them, or 2.1 as this set is being sold. Not your best size combo for a sub rig, but cool for 1976, as sub/sats were rare.

Thanks for the info! For the time period, the LF14 and Monitor 4 combo is interesting indeed. I also hope that someone in club Polk that knows how to take care of their stuff is the next owner of these. They appear in VERY good shape for their age and it would be a shame for something so rare and pristine to get into the hands of someone that would trash them.

New Club Polk member, but a long time Polk SDA owner.... in fact I still have and use my SDA2's that I purchased new back in (gasp!) 1985 when I was stationed in 'West' Germany!

I've been itching to upgrade the old 2's to either 1C's or a 2.3/2.3TL model for some time now... and I seem to always come up either a day late or dollar short in my attempts. Well that changed this past weekend.

    http://portland.craigslist.org/clc/ele/4449864072.html

The ad has expired but I was able to strike a deal with the owner of a set of SDA1C's. Drove down from the Seattle area to Oregon City (suburb of Portland) to pick them up this past Saturday. They have a couple of cosmetic issues to attend to (torn speaker cloth, veneer trim issues, and 1 side panel that has separated). Simple fixes to get the 'look' right, but I'm happy to report that the sound is wonderful! Speakers are stock, no upgrades (yet!). I'm going to enjoy them in their native state for a bit, just so I can compare the 1C's against my 'lowly' seriesI 2's which never had any upgrades performed either.

I look forward to getting a little more knowledgeable about the upgrades that are out there, and the sources for parts and support.

BTW, these speakers will be powered by another 1985 purchase I made while over in Europe... a Yamaha M-80 amp that has recently been refurbished/upgraded (by Legendary Amps out of Florida).

Yeah, I need to get my signature filled out, with all the details...

    2.3TL's - Living Room
    CRS+'s (4.1 TL's) - Office
    SDA1C's - Famdamly Rm

Congrats. I had a pair of 2.3TL's for awhile powered by the big Yamaha M80 and it was definitely sweet sounding. Welcome to Club Polk and you will find lots of great info and enthusiasts here.

There have been a number of CP members who are still running those big Yamaha M80 amps in their system. That says a lot about about the integrity of a product , especially from a fine company like Yamaha.

$219 is good price for the peerless RTA-12's but they are NOT C's. C's didn't have peerless.

Yes and that seller is a member here.
I still stand by my comment. They are not 12C's if they have peerless and you can't just drop in Peerless in place of SL2000 afaik.

CSi30 on the center. PSW150 on the sub. M12 series 2. He texted me a picture of the tags. I wanted the 12's when I bought my 10's in the 80's but could not afford them. I don't think I have ever seen a set of 12's on CL around me before. I really don't need to buy more speakers. I just bought a set of RTA 12's that I need to find something to run them with. UGH! Any thoughts on price for all that? Is $400 average or a good deal?

So the pic Jimbo18 posted has a replacement for the passive right?? I've always seen the flat passive, or is my ignorance of vintage Polks showing.

If so, what else has he replaced and what is the real value there.

It seems as though prices for all Monitors are high in NC. I normally see 5s for $100, 7s for $250 and 10s for $350 on Clist. I know that is just the asking price but they still seem high. All seem to be in avg-good condition, nothing outstanding.

I've seen a lot of overpriced Monitor speakers lately. $300-$500 for anything from Monitor 5's to 10's. And for some reason, they just ain't selling. Wonder why...

You are correct on that. The people around NC and SC that have these old Polk's seem to think they are made of gold. I just recently got some 5jr's for $80. People talk about seeing cheap Polk's on CL but I never do. When I do see a decent deal I usually get on it right away! ;)

Eh, I know the stuff I list on CL I always leave a LOT of wiggle room in. I know on CL folks are normally going to try and beat you up on price. By listing high I can still come down so it looks like I am working with them on price, and still get around what I "actually" want....

Hence why its a GOOD thing you cant see the Flea Market ads since normally I list things there for what I "actually" want to get out of it.
