20% off FULL RETAIL....I just went there last night in Paramus NJ store....

I was in CC the other day, i was looking at laptops and i had noticed that they scribbled out the regular prices with black magic marker and had new tags over it. The annoying thing was that the scribbled prices were lower than the new tag prices. Example, one laptop was listed as $899, the scribbled price was $799...wtf!
Anyways, some good deals on games. I saw Guitar Hero World Tour, the full band edition, for about $150. It was tempting, i should of just got it.
As for everything else in the store (besides games), not to many great deals at all, at least not yet. -
CC has always sucked
+1
I went to one of CC store close to my house and they have 30% off for everything. I looked at their prcies and just shook my head and walked away. With 30% off but their prices still a lot higher than Best Buy or Frys prices.

It's hard to fault the liquidators from an economic standpoint. They probably paid 20 cents on the dollar for the whole store contents. CC Corporate is still paying the rent and untilities and the sales staff has been cut 75%. They have no overhead (the liquidators).
Every sale is all gravy, then they take a tax break for the "loss" on the rest. Why rush to give bargains to people like us (the exceptions) when there are so many gullible people that will pay 30% off list just because the sign on the store says "Clearance, Going Out Of Business".
I have overheard a lot of regular appearing folks coming out of the store muttering so there probably is an intelligent consumer base out there. I also see a lot of folks carrying over-priced crap out (mostly Epson printers), so maybe not. In the two I have been in recently the audio department has been stripped and closed so they are either selling it or moving it somewhere else. Probably not even worth messing with until they hit the 50% off mark on everything. Bluray starts to become a deal around 50-60.Sony 60'' SXRD 1080p

...and they had it for .......FULL RETAIL, lol nice close out sale.forgot to add full retail is 3400.00At a minimum everything is at least 20% off.20% off FULL RETAIL....I just went there last night in Paramus NJ store....
...
Right. fflaque said they had the TV for full retail-he did not mention that it was on sale. I clarified that it would be at least 20% off of that. Theres a big difference between $3400 and $2720. Granted still not a good deal, but also not 'full retail' even if the 20% off is still based on the outlandish 'MSRP'.
Of course some things are normally sold at Full Retail in most places anyway such as the Game consoles and games, etc. so your more likely to score there than with TVs and receivers and such.
As far as DVDs and BR, I've always found CC and BB and B&N, FYE, Sears and just about any B&M retailer has the prices jacked way up normally anyway so no surprise there. I usually only buy DVDs and BR online at reasonable to me prices. I only buy in stores if the deal can't be beat online (bargain bins). So yes, when the discounts get into the 50%-60% and higher, then you'll start to see some good deals.
So does anybody know how long they will be allowed to sell at liquidation before they are forced to close up shop?____________________

I see the same thing in Furniture Store Liquidations. One store left their old tags in the sleeves that held the prices including the normal everyday selling prices before they went to liquidation. Its hard to have a feel good feeling that your getting a good deal when the actual discount your getting is closer to 2% (if that) rather than the 20%+ they advertise in the liquidation.
When i shop liquidation sales, I always research how much it sells for elsewhere before I buy. I do my best to avoid any impulse buying.____________________

I was at Circuit City last Sunday and the prices haven't changed much from when I was in that same store last October. One of the biggest scams is CC selling HDMI wires for over $60 bucks as you can get a high quality HDMI cable from Mediabridge at Amazon.com for $10 bucks which will perform exactly the same as a $100 Monster cable. Mediabridge is HDMI certified 1.3a Category 2 and always comes out with a new spec wire when it's created.
Checkout Mediabridge http://www.mediabridgeproducts.com/
For buying electronics I order everything now over the internet from ebay, amazon.com, Dealcost.com, Vanns.com, powersellernyc.com and never had a problem, many products I bought from those outlets offer free shipping and all included the warranty and still in factory sealed box. -
Another thing, I don't know if anyone of you heard of this site, but I order all my DVD's, cd's, Blu-Ray's at www.half.com and most the DVD's I get there are under $7 bucks, some go for $3 bucks, all in factory sealed wrapper. I have ordered over 40 DVD's from half.com and never had a problem, and after ordering they come in my mail 5-8 days later.

So does anybody know how long they will be allowed to sell at liquidation before they are forced to close up shop?
It's totally up to the liquidation company. They were projecting to wrap this up by March 31. Being that was their plan, they probably won't be ready to offer real savings until early- to mid-March. Even then, you won't see more than 30% to 35% off retail - there's just not that much profit margin on them, and it's easier and cheaper for the liquidator to sell what's left over at deeper discounts in bulk to online discounters and the like than to sell it at deeper discounts in "onesies and twosies" to individual consumers.
There is no obligation on the part of the liquidator to give an exact date and time for ending the liquidation -- when they feel they've made their money and are ready to sell off the leftovers in bulk, they send everyone home, lock the doors, and that's it. Don't expect CC's liquidation to go all the way to March 31st.
So, as the deadline approaches, make sure you go with a vehicle big enough to take the product with you when you leave. I bought my Mits 73" when Tweeter liquidated, and I put it right in the back of my SUV. Others, who paid for TVs that day so they wouldn't lose out on the deals, went back later with borrowed and rented trucks only to find out the doors were locked and no one was home. The liquidation was "supposed" to go for two more days. -
Blurays and video games are now 40% off at my CC.
There's one Xbox 360 game they have that i want, Far Cry 2. But they had tons of copies so i'm going to try my luck and hold out for a bigger discount.
They didn't really have many blurays i was in a hurry to buy, but a few i will definitely pick up when the price hits at least 50% off, if they still have them by then that is.
Also, they are starting to sell a lot of their racks and display cases, and they have boxes full of huge cables that they used to hook everything up for sale. Nothing i'll be buying, but a sure sign that it will be done soon (at least at my CC). I'm still amazed at some of the crap they are passing off for deals though, and that people are buying this stuff. -
Could be time for you guys to hit the CCs again. They had the 50-60% off signs up. Still only 30% off on hdtvs. But there were a lot of empty shelves. The whole console game section was empty and taped off with surviving stock moved up front. Could be some deals in the store if they've got something left that you happen to want. I picked up two compact monster power centers for 10 bucks each and a buffalo blu-ray/hd-dvd player/burner for 165. All new and sealed.
Now I just have to figure out what I need to get the blu-ray burner up and working on my PC. But it was sure cheaper than you could get it even online. So at least some good deals seem to be out there at CC now. -
I was there on Sunday, game consoles are all gone, cds too. Digital camera displays is bare other than a couple Olympus DSLR and a bunch of P&S coolpix. Still plenty of DVD stocks and BD. I didn't venture to the HDTV areas, but have seen several Sony's LCD boxes in the entrance areas (some of em are XBRs). All in all, I think they will shut down by end of February instead of March.I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

I have to agree with Devani. It's pretty much games and even they're not at the 50+ percent off level yet. But they're OK.
Of course, SOMEHOW, stock is disappearing more rapidly than it should at these inflated prices?

The stuff I got was much more than 50% off retail. When's the last time you were there? Devani's post was from one week ago. The 10 buck power centers retail for 49.95-59.95 and the buffalo list is 569.99 although the internet price is 200-300 something.

Agreed. We're in a small town and I was there on Sunday. Plenty of stuff, especially Bluray. Stop by on Tuesday to see if they had gone to 50% off yet and several departments were cleared out and the BR was down to bare bones. There's no way this small town is snapping up BR. I think they are consolidating into the larger remaining stores where maybe stuff is selling. I'm not concerned about missing anything even at 50% so I may stop by once more just to check but I think it will be all moved out in a week.Sony 60'' SXRD 1080p

They are definitely consolidating as I heard staff talking about shipments from other stores that were closing down. Could be that the bare pickings aren't worth people's time to check. But if they have something left that you want, chances are it's cheaper than it was last week.

I stopped in the CC in Delaware today and they were at the 50% off level for Games, CDs, DVDs, BR. 40% for Guitar Hero (wtf isn't that a game?). 60% for the Car audio stuff.
This store had plenty of CDs, DVDs, and a half decent selection of BR. Games were slim pickin but they had plenty of Far Cry 2 and Brothers in Arms for the Xbox360. Looked like the cameras were all but gone as well. They also some Logitech Harmony 890s and One's. Either they replenished some stock or had more delivered from another store or a warehouse, I don't think they had that much on the shelves a week or two ago.
I picked up a bunch of DVDs, CDs, and a couple BRs. Also got a rolling laptop bag for the wife. For some reason the registers weren't scanning the sale prices so the cashier had to manually override the prices. I guess she thought that Guitar Hero World Tour was a game too  and gave me 50% off
. Also the Logitech remotes were supposed to be 40%, but got the Harmony One at 50% for $125

As others mentioned, they are likely shipping stock to other stores that are moving inventory more quickly.
Also, don't under-estimate the average consumer's urge to buy for even a small discount -- those of us who watch for polk gear on ebay know that gear often auctions for close to the retail price -- a small discount is all it takes to get someone motivated to buy. The TV's that cheddar is seeing for 30% off will likely not get any cheaper -- the margin is small so they will likely sell them in bulk rather than go deeper than 30% to individual consumers.
As a store's inventory depletes, it's likely up to the rep from the liquidation company at that store to decide if it's time to make the discounts more aggressive, which is why we're seeing some stores with deeper discounts than others. A store that's moving inventory will probably have the smallest discounts, and look the least empty as other, less successful stores ship their inventory to them. Just speculating, but it seems to explain what's happening. -
Just got back form CC a little while ago and I picked up two Monster HTS 950 for $39.99 each and was also told about items at their HQ being sold as well. I may just go over there and see what is available. Looks interesting.

I was in Plano, Tx.
50% BR, CD, & DVD. BR were picked through, already. The only one that interested me was The Invasion at half of list $35. No thx.
Harmony One: $150
Squeezebox Duet: $200
Dirty Onkyo 806: no price tag, no box, no manuals that I could see (didn't ask because it was busy)
Plasma TV's were poorly priced with the 30% markdown. Fry's down the street was cheaper on most items. Did not check LCD HDTV.
I walked out empty handed. -

I know, the store in DE had a full lot the last couple times I was there. Even with the main lot full, there was another 30-40+ cars in a neighboring office building parking lot. Handicap spots were taken as well (no disabled plates or tags either). I kept hearing announcements/warnings about towing in progress, as I shopped.____________________
