Had to add this one, probably one of the best songs I've ever heard:

Tears for Fears "Woman in Chains"

Powerful, incredibly well put together/composed song. If you've never seen the video, take the time to check it out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QzkK3ZtI9SU

Ya know Steve, my wife turned me onto that song one day because she was going through the bags full of CDs that we hadn't taken out since we moved and she said, "wait until you hear this on your SDAs and that rig," man was she right. It just is so engaging and mesmerizing.:)

Yes indeed George another awesome performance and Alvin Lee's guitar, oh baby. I may have mentioned this early in this thread or in another similar thread. His facial expressions are as priceless as Joe Cocker's.

I love this post, some great songs listed here. How about Bridge of Sighs by Robin Trower, or a fun song is Spirit in the Sky by Norman Greenbaum. Or anything by the most underrated group of all time, Blue Oyster Cult.

WMMR radio in Philly just started a program about 5 minutes ago playing the best voted song of each year starting in 1968. The first year 1968, playing now is Sympathy for the Devil.

I had that Concert on cassette tape waaay back.

I'm gonna have to put that on my short list to find on vinyl or CD.

Rare Earth is way under appreciated, imo.

Trying to pick just one is futile, way too many great ones. A personal top ten might be doable, but even that would be tough. But here goes in no particular order:

    Baba O'Reilly- The Who
    Stairway to Heaven- Led Zeppelin
Green Grass and High Tides- The Outlaws
The Low Spark of High-Heeled Boys- Traffic
Ride Across The River- Dire Straits
Ridin' The Storm Out- REO Speedwagon
    Life's Been Good- Joe Walsh
Needle & The Damage Done- Neil Young
Where The Streets Have No Name- U2
    Fool's Overture- Supertramp

I was a cop in So. Jersey from 1978 till 2004, mostly the overnight shift and listened to them in the squad car all the time. I started listening to WMMR in the summer of 1968 when I was a freshman in High school. Michael Tearson, Earle Bailey, Helen Light. Bailey is on Deep Tracks on XM now, Tearson might be on there too.
