I enforce a fairly strict no drama policy at my home, I expect the people I invite into my home to treat it with respect. I have seen this at past Polkfests, which is why I had no issue doing this.

if Cathy is that uncomfortable and apprehensive, it is best for her not to attend. which is why I don't want the issue forced. Thanks in advance for your cooperation on this folks.

\I prefer to focus on what it is--a good time with friends,,a very close family of friends-- anything else is just hype.

I know quite a few women that are like Cathy and are very cautious and prefer not to travel alone...and that is understandable.

On the flip side, the women in my life think nothing about heading out on their own at the drop of a hat. My youngest daughter showed up last weekend black and blue from having gone whitewater kayaking on the Ocoee River with 5 guys (none of which were her BF). They were just guys she knew from school and work. They took care of her when she got hung up in a tree in a bad situation...maybe even saved her. She goes rock climbing and to music festivals all over the country as well as doing some solo hiking around the Smokies. As I have posted, my oldest thinks nothing of grabbing her backpack and heading to the far side of the world by herself...as she is doing right now in Cambodia. My wife while not as adventuresome as our daughters has flown across the country by herself on several occasions for various activities. Do I worry that "something" could happen? Sure...but people get killed or hurt everyday in their own backyard...often by people they "know and trust". I know they will use their best judgment and be wary and smart...and if something happens...it happens. They are independent, smart, confident women who would have it no other way.

Other than the fact they might think they would be bored to tears attending a PF with a bunch of audio geeks, they would have no qualms attending on their own just based on the things I've said about the past PFs and the people there. I doubt there would be many places in Jersey where Cathy would be safer than PF at Lou's. It's one thing to be cautious and wary...but PF at the home of folks gracious enough to open it up to "internet friends" doesn't fall into that category IMO.

Shack I'm in AWE of your daughter & wish I could be more like her!

I have NO doubt that I would be safe at Lou's, and have a great time. But as George pointed out it also would include the to & fro, plus lodgings & transport, and being in an unfamiliar city is just too much to overcome my sense of self preservation & survival instinct.

Now if there were a couple of more women on here that were willing to go & we could meet up & share a room to attend I'd be there in a heartbeat.

But I am eagerly awaiting the reports & pics of this event!:)

Plans are made, hotel is booked.............so I'm 100% in, barring some last minute snafu.

DKG999 and I are going to head to Ricardo's on Thursday and stay the night and then the 3 of us (so far) are leaving Friday AM to head to Lou's for a rockin' Polkfest 2010.

Thanks again for the words. She's just freaking out and was super worried and we have been talking more about it and what I would be doing ect so she is calming down a bit. I just don't want her to have a panic attack the moment I leave the state and have to be on the phone with her 24-7 telling her I'm ok as then its just stress to me and not the fun weekend that I intended.

But its getting better, so good things, good things I hope.

Chris, do what you have to do. You guys are both young and if she's not going to calm down about it, then you have to decide if it's worth the hassle if you decide to go to PF.

can't. Originally she wanted to come so then she could just hang out in the hotel room all weekend and do her thing like go shopping or whatever she does but she couldn't get it off for work when she put in her request so she can't go.

Cathy!!!! We had in BLAST in Baltimore, no? Who will I have to laugh with me during all the pranks on the newbs?

Either way, you are an integral part of what keeps this Club Polk ship from listing too far to one side.

On the spouse / sig other front - everything is in good fun, and everyone is treated with the utmost respect at these events - it will REALLY show you what the brotherhood is all about - just being a member on the board doesn't even come close to the comradarie experienced in person.

    Cheers,

Wife and Wee-un will be in FLA during this weekend so I am THERE!!!
There is no genuine justice in any scheme of feeding and coddling the loafer whose only ponderable energies are devoted wholly to reproduction. Nine-tenths of the rights he bellows for are really privileges and he does nothing to deserve them. We not only acquired a vast population of morons, we have inculcated all morons, old or young, with the doctrine that the decent and industrious people of the country are bound to support them for all time.-Menkin

Remember HI - it's about $60 a night if we split a room. There's two beds, so we don't even have to cuddle.
