Hamelin wasn't DQ'd because the Korean was cross tracking aka blocking which is basically a form of cheating. Kamelin skated his line and the Korean came in too tight. As he lifted his inside leg, it went up into Hamelin's arm, he lost balance and went down. He might have pulled off a gold or at least a silver had he stuck to his line.

Ohno on the other hand, hard to say since I can't seem to get a replay video to work. I do know his comments were rather classless. Especially since nobody has gained more from DQs than Ohno. IE: After winning the gold in 2002 from the same situation reversed, and for getting through to the 500m finals do to a DQ, and for winning the 1500 silver because people ahead of him fell.

It is too bad he didn't realize that the chief referee who made the call (Ken Pendrey) is actually British. I wonder what his excuse would have been then.

Sour grapes. Make some wine and move on Ohno. Or is it whine? This is simply a part of the sport. This time it was him. Could be anyone in any race.

Yeah I don't care of Mr. Ohno at all, he's just so overhyped. If you've been watching the speed skating there are many skaters that just blew him away. And yet the announcers focus on him....

also, why do the US follow the "most medal" ranking table when the rest of the world cares about is golds? of course it's obvious that the US would have more chance winning "most medals" than most "gold medals" and therefore more chance to "top" the list. but it's ridiculous and pretty pathetic to be honest.

I'm not sure exactly where you get your facts of "rest of the world cares about golds." Even our friends to the north had their "Own the Podium" initiative in which they spent $117 million to finish atop the medal standings.

Why exactly would the US have the most chance to win the most medals? Population? If that were the case, then China or India would top the total number of medals. I'm not sure where your logic comes from, unless all you are trying to do is bash the US.

I think he was referring to the fact that the USA always brings the highest number of athletes.

That makes more sense. From what I've seen, I think Vancouver has done a great job with the Olympics!!!

hmmm no. if you just took some time and did some research, you wouldn't have said stupid stuff like that. check the statistics of olympics medals.

also, watch olympics from other tv than in the US and you'll see what criteria they follow for ranking table.

of course silver medals and gold medals are not nothing (otherwise why would they have it), but it's more of a "consolation" prize than anything.

in the end, just open your eyes and educate yourself a little more.

I don't know much about hockey, but I don't understand why Team USA refused to play on the Canadian side. There seemed to be tremendous scoring opportunities that were missed simply because Team USA fled back to their own goal.. eh.. just like with anything else.. victory rarely rewards the timid. Good game :)

Two reasons, one, defense and two Luongo has trouble with the long shots. He's good at falling on stuff but typically you can get a heater flying past him from the line.

I think this week I'll be going through serious Olympic withdrawl. I also think Canada put on a hell of a games. Yes there were some bumps and some very unfortunate occurances but overall they were very successful and the outpouring of Canadian national pride is nothing short of remarkable. Thank's to the athletes and spectators and people from around the world that made it incredibly successful. And to everyone on the forum....come visit British Columbia or the rest of Canada we'd love to have you. We now have to pay for these games and the bill is huge!!

My wife and I are started planning on going to Sochi. But, after doing some research, we discovered that they have nothing built yet. So, we are waiting a bit to see what happens.
