Just watched Joannie Rochette hit the podium in figure skating. That was probably the hardest anyone has ever had to fight to earn a bronze medal. I know I wouldn't have 1/10'th the strength she had to even compete, let alone win a medal.
For anyone who doesn't know the back story, her mother had a heart attack upon arriving in Vancouver on Sunday to watch her daughter skate, and passed away. It was impossible to not get choked up while watching Rochette break out in tears after her short program.
Simply an amazing feat of courage. Well done Joannie.Michael

On the podium you could see Joannie equally torn between joy and sadness. That is one extraordinarily courageous woman. Way to go Joannie!!SDA-1C (full mods)

Finland - USA today 3ET, I'm leaving early to watch it. Winner goes to gold medal game, loser goes home. I'm hoping for a big win for Finland but I must admit USA has seemed to be the better team this year.

Loser doesn't exactly go home, they will still play for bronze but who wants that right
If both cards play right and we see can vs usa in finals, I can't see the US winning again if they play like they did in the first game... Canada was the better team, the US had a great performance by Miller. But anyways, looking way too far away, take care of Finland!AVR: H/K AVR240

Right, they still play one more game but mentally it's "loser goes home".If both cards play right and we see can vs usa in finals
If both cards play right, it's FIN - SLO in the finals... -
I just read that the IOC is reviewing the way the Canadian women celebrated after winning the gold medal. . .
http://sports.espn.go.com/olympics/winter/2010/icehockey/news/story?id=4947716
Are you kidding me??? Give them a break! If I won a gold medal (or probably even a silver or bronze), I think that I would run around town naked with only the medal around my neck and not give a flying "F" what anybody else thought. The IOC needs to get that stick out of their a$$. -
So I see now the press is making a big deal over the Canadian women's hocky team leaving the locker room after the stadium is empty and celebrating on the ice with beer and cigars. The only ones there were the cleaning crew and a few press people. I say way to go girls, party on!!! It was only for half an hour and nothing got broken and no one hurt but some people are "outraged" and saying that they have no class. Give me a friggin' break. They've worked their butts off for two years preparing for this moment, they beat their biggest rivals (The US team won just a few months ago in the Worlds), they do it at home in front of the world, and they celebrate on ice AFTER all the crowds have left. No harm no foul.SDA-1C (full mods)

Finland has one of the least talented teams in years, I was surprised they got this far. USA has a very young, talented, hungry team. Still, I didn't expect it to be this bad. Good thing is, my new water cooling kit arrived so I could turn off the TV and start putting that in. -
A touchdown and Finland is right back in it.I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

I'm so happy for Charles Hamelin after failing to win an expected medal 3 times earlier this week, he gets 2 gold within 1.5 hours. -

I want Canada to win (duh!) but I really think USA has a better chance. It will be a VERY good, close game. -

Not an "expert" opinion, just an opinion. I'm not really all that into hockey (not by Canadian standards that is), I just think the USA looks like a slightly better team to me. All I know is that Luongo needs to die so those stupid LOUUUUUUUU chants can die with him. -
Hey now!! Don't be dis'n Bobby Lou. I'm a Canadian first but a Canuck a very close second.
On a different note, I've always thought Crosby was over rated. This tournament has proven me correct. I don't think he even has a single point yet. Nothing. Now would be a great time to join the team Cindy...er I mean Sidney.
By the way when I say I'm a Canadian first I mean it as in "Go Canada" NOT to insinuate I'm a Montreal Canadian's fan. Never have been. Never will be.SDA-1C (full mods)

I don't really have anything against Luongo and I do think he is a capable goalie. However I DO hate, HATE, the LOUUUU chant, and therefore dislike him by association. I very much hate the BOOOOOOOM chant at Pearl Jam concerts as well for the same reasons. Anything that sounds like booing is as annoying as the wave! -
Canada's going to be playing Norway in Curling today, for the Gold. I kinda got hooked on this sport lately. But then again, I like watching Golf also.:p

I think he caused the korean skater to fall. the slow-mo replay showed that he hit the korean skater in 2 places. he should've been disqualified. but being the host, he won the gold instead. I do not like the guy.Onkyo 805, RtiA5s, Csi5, Rti6s -
also, why do the US follow the "most medal" ranking table when the rest of the world cares about is golds? of course it's obvious that the US would have more chance winning "most medals" than most "gold medals" and therefore more chance to "top" the list. but it's ridiculous and pretty pathetic to be honest.Onkyo 805, RtiA5s, Csi5, Rti6s

Ohno didn't knock the other Canadian down either. The dude fell and Ohno wasn't even touching him. If anything, the one Canadian should have been disqualified and the other either DNF'ed or last but instead they end up on the podium.
I really don't think that judges of events should be from the country of any competitors in the heat/round/attempt they are officiating over. It's a conflict of interest. It also leads to stuff like this where questionable calls bring in to scrutiny the objectiveness of the judging.Expert Moron Extraordinaire
You're just jealous 'cause the voices don't talk to you! -
I agree that the judges should be from different countries, however, when you have 20 different countries competing in an event, how many judges are qualified and experienced enough AND from a country other than those competing. The original judge had to be swapped out due to death threats.
Edit: Had it backwards -
Hamelin wasn't DQ'd because the Korean was cross tracking aka blocking which is basically a form of cheating. Kamelin skated his line and the Korean came in too tight. As he lifted his inside leg, it went up into Hamelin's arm, he lost balance and went down. He might have pulled off a gold or at least a silver had he stuck to his line.
Ohno on the other hand, hard to say since I can't seem to get a replay video to work. I do know his comments were rather classless. Especially since nobody has gained more from DQs than Ohno. IE: After winning the gold in 2002 from the same situation reversed, and for getting through to the 500m finals do to a DQ, and for winning the 1500 silver because people ahead of him fell.
It is too bad he didn't realize that the chief referee who made the call (Ken Pendrey) is actually British. I wonder what his excuse would have been then.
