ok.. maybe I don't buy tires to often.. went to Costco to price some out.. because they have a coupon good till the end of the month for $70 off a set of 4 tires.

of course tires for my car are always the size they never have in stock. 205/55/15 ??

Anyhoo, they're going to order me a set of four... should run just under $700 for the set. Michelin brand.

just venting i guess. carry on

They went up in price because you're getting raped, and Michelin is expensive.

That's stock size on a 92-93 Celica GT, i used to run those.

    http://www.tirerack.com/tires/TireSearchResults.jsp?filtering=true&width=205/&ratio=55&diameter=15

I paid less than that for my autocross tires in 245/45-16 last season.

 i feel for ya... but truck tires I can almost justify spending that.. bigger tires, aggressive tread design, good looking rubber.. etc.. but car tires I just think are over priced.

here are the ones I'm getting.. the specs do look pretty good on them though.

I just spent $687.00 on getting the wife's car wrapped and a 4 wheel alignment. Sumitomo tires I think. I was gonna get her some Michelin's but they weren't in stock and these were $10 cheaper per tire even with the Michelin rebate and they are rated for 10,000 more miles on the warranty.

Yeah, I was expecting to walk out with a $350.00 bill. Boy was I wrong.

Tires are made of oil. Oil prices go up, tire prices go up. For two reasons, raw materials are more expensive and the cost for fuel to do everything from firing the vulcanizing furnaces to transportation to get the tires to market goes up. Not to mention the cost of the power needed to run the heavy tools used to change your tires. It's got nothing to do with "getting ripped off".

True story. Costco is still a ripoff.

My cost has gone down. :D

DangerBoy, instead of those Michelins, take a look at the Kumho ASXs. They're rated pretty similarly, and i used to run them exclusively when i was still an all-seasons kind of guy. They handle pretty well in the dry, and aren't too bad in winter, either.

They're also way cheaper. You're looking at under $300 for a set of 4, plus shipping from Tire Rack.

ok. i guess i'll ask.. what is wrong with all season tires? yeah, prob not a sport design tire.. but where I live.. you really have to have an all season tire. i did the performance sport tires on another car before.. and with the amount of rain we get here. i swear it was the scariest ride I've ever had in my life.. hydroplaning across water going 70mph was effin scary.

the all season's disperses water better on my car.

I got a new set of Hankook tires (205/65/15) for my Nissan at less than $500 from Pep Boys, which is a decent price but the good thing is that they last a long time.

The tires for my Mom's car, on the other hand, are 2-3 times that much and only last for 15-20,000 miles!! (Corvette C6 Coupe)

Right... it's a compromise tire, not great any anything, but passable at all things. So don't spend over twice the money to get 10% more performance. ;)

I'm not knocking all seasons, just don't see the point in spending almost 200% what you have to.

I hear you on the hydroplaning, it's always interesting trying to drive my Hankook Ventus RS2s Z212s through a nice rain storm. Especially with wide rubbers crammed on a small 2300lb car. :D

Just like concealer404 said, I think they are a decent tire but don't do anything in particular great just passable at all times.

I would use a set of winter tires only for the snow season, but that's just me.

There is nothing wrong with all-seasons. Most passenger car tires out there right now are all-season tires. They aren't a compromise. They don't do snow as well as snow tires and they aren't going to turn your car in to a race car by any means either. But just because of that doesn't mean they should be looked down on.

BTW, danger boy lives in the Pacific Northwest. They don't get "harsh" weather like snow. They get rain. Lots and lots of rain. Hell, the Northwest U.S. and Southwest of Canada are home to what's considered a "temperate rainforest". If danger boy should get anything, he should look at Goodyear Aquatreads which are, get this, listed as "all-season" tires. Pfft! They must be total junk then!

Since we are on the topic of tires here....anybody know of a place to get BF Goodrich All Terrain tires at a good price? What I am looking for is 285/75/R16's in a ten ply E-load class. The price I got quoted today was $215.00 a tire. I need 5 of them.

Any help would be appreciated. If you know of a good online place to purchase that happens to have these exact tires, PM me please.

    The T/A's KO's are $198 a piece.

    The T/A KM2 are $217 a piece.

Both are load range E. You're not going to find a much better price. The tires are expensive and VERY popular.

Thing about tire rack is that they may be cheap but often you have to pay $30+ per tire for shipping. So they aren't always the cheapest alternative.

Another option, if you have one local, is Just Tires. They often can match Tire Rack prices and installation costs are low. It sucks having to go to a place like that with monkeys doing the work but, you get what you pay for and if you pay cheap, you get cheap. Only bonus is, a BFGoodrich is a BFGoodrich whether you get it from Just Tires or a Michelin store.

BTW, BFGoodrich is owned by Michelin in case anyone was wondering.

    Did not know that.

Yeah, I looked at the shipping and it came to $1,116.00 for the 5 tires. This does not include balancing, installation, road hazard warranty, tire disposal, free tire rotation or free flat repairs. Looks like the quote given wasn't so bad after all.

It's not like it was a big shock or anything. The last time I wrapped the truck, I think I paid about $1,070.00. That was about two years+ ago.

BFGoodrich was an American company but they got bought by Michelin in the last recession we had and BFGoodrich was in receivership. Same thing happened to Firestone which is owned by Bridgestone which is a Japanese company.

As far as the tires, my dad has the same tires on his truck but in a different size and last time he got them, he paid $1060 and managed to get free installation. Even at $260+ a tire, they sell like hotcakes 'cause they hold weight and they are very capable off-road.

I just like the looks. To me it is the "sexiest" tire on the market. I've had Bridgestones on the truck since I got it but it is just a basic looking tire. This time, I'm increasing the tire size to more appropriately match the truck [stock tires are rather small] because it is no longer a daily hauler.

It's hard to find a bigger tire for my truck. Not many 11+ inch wide tires out there that are a height that won't make my ABS freak out to begin with. Never mind going wider. Then again, at 29 inches tall, there isn't that much room for growth on an 18 inch wheel anyway.

BTW, this is my stock tire:

    http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Goodyear&tireModel=Eagle+F1+GS&partnum=945WR8F1GSFO&vehicleSearch=false&fromCompare1=yes

295/45ZR18. At $255 each on special, that's the cheapest I can get them for. Wouldn't be so bad if they didn't suck. Last year, they wanted almost $290 a piece. I said the hell with that and got these:

    http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Pirelli&tireModel=Scorpion+Zero+Asimmetrico&partnum=85WR8SCOR0A&vehicleSearch=false&fromCompare1=yes

285/50ZR18. Right now they are $187 a piece but I got them for $176 a piece two Octobers ago. Awesome tires and they are all-season. They handled that big snow storm we had with no problem. Great foul weather traction and excellent dry performance. Great wear characteristics too. That's saying something since my truck eats tires like a fat kid eating candy. Then again with almost a 12 inch section width on a 29 inch tall tire, they are like paddle wheels in snow and mud and they out perform the Goodyears in every respect.

Oh, but wait, the Scorpion Asymmetricos are Z rated rubber but they are all-season so they must be a "compromise".

Treitz , I get the best prices from your typical small garage instead of tire dealers.
I bought a set of Firestone's for my F250 from a small towing/mechanics shop. I saved just over $200(set of 4 installed) compared to the exact same tire at a Firestone/Bridgestone dealer.
Same story at a place that sells MOSTLY semi tires , but had a firestone banner tied up out front. I stopped and asked if they did cars too , YEP , called his supplier for the tire I wanted and beat the dealer by almost $200 also.

As Jstas mentioned, I suspect oil prices are what have influenced tire prices the most (production costs and transportation costs). I had trouble getting the price of four regular all-season tires below $300 for our VW Golf. In the end, I found Costco to be quite expensive.

OTOH, I have quite a bit of respect for Michelin, for everyday use. We still have them as an OEM tire on one of our cars and I find they're a nice compromise between normal driving expectations and longevity, and yes: very good on water. I even drove over a brick once (yes, a brick) lying in the road on a corner with six year old Michelins. I was driving at 70 mph and had no time to react when I saw the brick and nowhere else to go anyway. The bang bent the rim, but the tire was fine, other than the slow deflation caused by the bent rim (it took about an hour or two to go flat). Anyway, I had the rim fixed (got lucky that I didn't have to replace it) and the tire kept on driving until it was just worn out ... so: if the price was not too high compared to other equivalents, I would buy Michelin again.

Considering Costo's policy of installation, lifetime balancing, lifetime rotations, not crazy about price but overall a good deal and hard to beat.
