True story. I scored a full set of Bridgestone RE-01Rs in 245/45-16 for under $350 when they were closing them out because i called. They weren't listed on the site. THAT was a fun season. :D

this is the tire that Les Schwab recommended Toyo Proxes 4 please check it out and let me know what you think. and they do stock it. 4 x $115 = $577

I've used Proxes 4, recommended them a few times in this thread. Not a bad tire at all.

They aren't going to last really long though, i'll tell you that much.

Honestly, for the money, i think you'd do better by the Yokos that H9 suggested or the ASXs. The wet performance thing isn't something you should worry about unless you constantly drive at 10/10ths to get your groceries.

Both of those options will be cheaper, and last longer.

Check out Tirerack's price shipped to your door on either of those tires and see how it compares. Figure $20 a corner max to have them installed. I pay $10 a corner out here.

been doing a lot of reading online about the size of the tires i need.. and most are only good for up to 45K miles. in this size 205/55/15 is not a long lasting tire.. at all. i wish I could find a tire in my size that would last 80K, but that ain't going to happen.

looking back. i think I got about approx 30K on my current tires.. and the tread is barely there. properly inflated, never had any repairs done to them and rotated often. just warn out after around 30K though. rated to go up to 40K, but never made it there.

You won't see 45k out of Proxes 4s, i'll tell you that much. I'd say 20-25k would be more in line.

You could easily see 30-35k on the ASXs, not positive on the Yokos, i've never run them for a whole tire life.

What car are these going on?

going on an older Mazda 626 sedan. V6 not sure why they would go with that tire.. seems small to me. but that's what's recommended for it.

Costs... there's not a ton of room under those cars for huge tires. The fender/strut relationship doesn't leave much room. And back when it was manufactured, 205/55-15 was a much more common size, they didn't have FWD cars running 225 width or anything back then.

How old, exactly? I have an MX6, which is basically a 2-door version of the 626, but it's a 90, not the sexy bodystyle. For what it's worth, 205s were the recommended size on that thing, too.

I was just making sure you didn't have a real heavy car or anything. I would really recommend the ASXs for you.

I had two sets of those Yokos. They will last 50-60k if you do not abuse them. 1st set had well over 40k and I got a nail in one and ran it a little too far without air, so I replaced the whole set even though the other 3 tires didn't look bad. 2nd set had at least 35k and I sold the car with the tires still looking pretty darn good.

Well I'm sure this will not be a popular choice here, but....

About a month ago one of my tires blew, and I was in needed to replace all 4, but I was short on cash so I went on ebay looking for a used stock tire to las a month or two until I could afford a new set. To my amazement I found a used tire reseller that had a full set of stock tires with 90% of the thread left. A new tire was $197 ea. I bought all 4 for $250 shipped.

When I received the tires, the were like NEW, no patches, no scuffs, no flat spots. I got them installed and balanced for $100. So the tire change cost me $350 that was going to cost me at least $800 buying the tires new. Ive had them for over a month now, and they are still perfect, not even loosing air.

After that I bought another tire to replace one that my wife busted on a curb. I bought it with about 50% left to match the current set. I payed $45 shipped for that tire...

    Just my .02

BTW these were Goodyear Eagle LS2 in 235/45/17

hit the pavement today and after going to three tire stores found my size, decent (but not sexy) tires for my car. of course being the odd monkey size they are.. they have to order them from somewhere...

going with BF Goodrich Touring Pro TA series HV $85 each... plus install. says 60K mile tire.. I hope to get at least 40K out of it.

    thanks for your help everyone.

if the tires suck, then it's my fault.. ;)

Those aren't terrible. Squishy sidewall, but i've driven much worse. I've got a pair of those on the rear of the Deathscort, and they're way better than the Falken Ziex **** tires that are on the front of that car.

Not a bad price, unless they screwed you on install. :)

Proxes 4 are actually pretty soft rubber, something i don't really understand in an all season tire.

This thread just made me realize that i have to buy rubber for 3 cars in the next few months. :( Not going to be cheap, either. Bummer.

Regarding the Firestone lifetime wheel alignment agreement....

No, you don't. My sister just purchased the agreement for her Acura and all she has on her car are Goodyear Eagles.

On my Toyota Highlander, I do have 2 new Firestone tires in the back, but otherwise I have 2 Yokohama Geolander's in front and the agreement was purchased way before the Firestone tires.

    Didn't see that...

The only car i've ever had aligned at Firestone using the lifetime agreement is the Celica, and i've never had anything but Hankooks on it. Well, and a set of Kumho Victoracers. They raised their eyebrows at that one, but did it anyways, chuckling amongst themselves.

My local Firestore Auto Center never asked what brand of tires I have nor did they ever said anything about the agreement being for Bridgestone/Firestone tires owner only. They just do the alignment and that was that.

I just think it's an excellent deal. Sears used to offer this type of alignment agreement and I used one for over 10 years worth of wheel alignment on my 1991 Honda Accord.

Yep. Interesting to note that most locations are perfectly ok with aligning highly modified cars as well. The control arms are about the only stock suspension component left on my car, and they don't bat an eyelash. I go in, tell them what i want, and they do it, with a printout out to prove, and i'm on my merry way. :D

That's good to know even though I don't have any car to mod to that degree (thinking of a TRD front strut bar for my 2009 Corolla S though).

Those printouts actually helped when it's time to sell the car.

Most certainly will get better mileage as well.
