Well the title says it. I used love deer hunting in CT. I am thinking about getting back into it here in GA.

I've hunted in some of the past years down here. You got a very, very long firearm season here in GA. Goes from next week (Oct 17) all the way until New Years Day! Tree stands are a must down here. Don't need much more than a 30/30 to take most shots you'll find in the N. GA woods.

Yes Ben I am. We have great hunting here in New Jersey. As you can imagine good hunting property is hard to find but can be done. Currently I have a few options I use regarding land and they all produce nice deer. We can use a crossbow this year I won't. I know we will see more wounded deer because we will have novice shooters with crossbows feeling they can try a shot outside the true limits of the crossbow and or their own ability. I have a beauty of a 12 point around my home all the time but he won't be harvested legally. Unfortunately some scumbag will poach him. If I were to poach a deer it would be a young doe thats great eating not a trophy buck.
You really should get back into hunting. For me hunting is almost as relaxing as listening to music. These days everyone seems like they can use some relaxation not that hunting is for everyone.

I'm in your shoes Ben, not that I have relocated, but just got too busy with work, got married, had a baby, etc. Could have squeezed some time in but if I can't spend the time scouting and target shooting, it just doesn't feel the same to rely 100% on luck. We all know even when you put your time in, to be successful still takes a little luck, I just do not want it to be all luck. But out of a job now so will have more time, not as much as you would think, as I am going to school and still job hunting, but enough to enjoy it.

Yeah, I used to hunt deer. I used to hunt turkey as well.

They must have a secret club or some **** because every time I'd go turkey hunting, there were a plethora of deer....not one turkey. I'll never forget the time I was deer hunting and I saw a band of turkey 21 strong meet at the water hole 30' in front of me. They stayed there for about a half an hour and I could swear that they were laughing at me.

That was the last time I hunted.

Nah, after about 4-5 years of this happening I decided that hunting was not a fun hobby. It became an expensive waste of time [for me]. Besides, wiping fox piss on you, waking up at 3:00am to freeze your **** off for hours on end is not my idea of a good time.

    So now I'm into audio.

Yeah, some aspects suck, but the opportunity to get out and be in nature makes it worth it. I've never really cared if I get a deer or not.

Good to see some sportsmen here. I used to hunt all the time. Just being in the woods was nice when I used to be able to handle the cold. It should be a little better here.

I am most likely going to be hunting with a crossbow. I agree about how many people think that they can handle longer ranges than compounds. A compound can go to about 70 yards with a good shooter, and a crossbow is pushing it at 50.

30 to 40 yards is about my max with a crossbow. at least that I'm confident enough to get a clean kill from my stand

I don't shoot over 35 yards period. I am a pretty solid shot, but I don't like to wound animals. Glad to see you have the same respect for deer.
    Happy hunting.

+1 Always refreshing to see others that know and respect their ranges for clean humane shots. This is critical to keeping the sport alive.

Sure does improve it. Nothing better than an archery taken deer that was calmly grazing and never knew what hit it walking off to bleed out.

Very nice. I wish rabbits were the size of deer. Nothing like good ole southern fried rabbit, and I'm from the north;)

I'm still waiting on my doe permit in the mail. I got my antlered permit for this year, 2 of them actually. Haven't decided what I'm going to hunt with, but shotgun is just so blah. I'm thinking maybe a .44, .454, or .500 depending what gets traded in to the local shop.

I have hunted here in Iowa for the last 11 years and have yet to land a trophey but I would have to say that I have missed a couple of them. Two years ago I really messed up and had a huge 12 pointer about 50 yards away and I got the buck fever and moved too fast before he got behind a tree and I would be able to shoulder the gun with out him seeing it, I pulled the gun up and spooked him and he took off running and I took a couple shots as he was running though the trees and of course I believe he is still running. I guess thats just the way things go. I hope to have better luck this year as we hunt in one of the best counties in Iowa as far as big bucks go.
