Good point. It's like throwing pearls to swine. They'll just never appreciate something valuable and will keep living in ignorance.

Why does it seem like half of nooshinjohn's post is him trying to defend himself?

In regards of not selling back gear purchased from another polkie for a good price, I feel the only legitimate reason for doing this is if you truly needed the money.

I personally don't sell anything on this forum unless I feel I'm giving a fair or good price for it.

The first 8 pages of this thread were pretty mundane, but I like how it's slowly turning from flame-fest to a reincarnation of Tasteless Babes Thread.

    Keep the pics coming!

Oh, and for what it's worth, I think you should definitely let some time pass before flipping a Polk Forum purchase for profit. After you use it for a while, I say sell it for whatever you can get for it on Audiogon, but don't purchase solely for the intent of making a profit on another Polkie's generous offering price.

If you do sell for a nice profit, you should at the very least offer the original seller a kick-back.

I agree with Andy if they are just purchasing it with the intention of selling it for profit, then there is no excuse for that.

As a Polk forum member, I would have to say that if I were to sell any of my gear, and didn't have to get a certain price, this would be the first place I would go to sell it. It would be discounted when possible to give a fellow polkster a break. I would do so because that is the general feel I got from the posts I had read on this forum. That being said, once bought it is the buyers' right to do whatever he pleases. If someone flipped something they bought from me they wouldn't have the chance to do it again.
That is the choice of a seller. If they are collectors, thats fine too, but I would prefer to sell to people that are going to use the item and are buying here to get a break.
I also would not hesitate to pm a seller if I saw that same buyer interested in what he is selling just to give him a heads up. Then he could make his own choice on whether to sell it to him or not.
I do like it here, however it seems that this forum is stooping to the same level that most others do.
I must say, you read all these posts from folks that where there religion on their sleeves along with their patriotism but can't get along on a simple forum.
For the sake of the forum, at the first hint of ugly, moderators please delete.

"Forum rules & guidelines are not up for debate. This is not a democracy, but rather a private forum owned by Polk Audio. Anyone openly debating the rules we have set in place will be removed. "

I am not one for rules, just civility. It is funny however how a word such as democracy is used for ones own purposes. And oh my yes, there are loads of funny people here, that is unless you happen to disagree.

Geez 10 whole pages now  A lot has been said since I went to bed last night.

I think the reason why H9 started this thread was not to out SS but to vent his frustration at what he felt was a betrayal of how things should be.

If anyone here gave away a karma or purposely sold something for less than retail value to a friend then that person sold it for a profit instantly, rather than using it you most likely would feel like you were used.

There are instances where this isnt the case.... One of the first things I did shortly after I started posting here on a regular basis was sell a preamp to a member here that was using a receiver as his pre but couldndt afford a decent one, I had upgraded to a much nicer and more expensive pre and had no use for this one so I offered it to him for the price of postage he accepted and some time later he fell upon hard times and had to sell it and his amp, I understood what he was going through and harbored no ill will towards him he did what he needed to do and put his family ahead of audio which was the right thing to do and I am very happy I was able to help him out and in fact am going to send him an amp as soon as I can. Why? Because it's the right thing to do simple as that.

Some people put stipulations on their Karmas such as X number of posts and one of the reasons why is that they want this Karma to go to someone who will both appreciate it and hopefully re karma it later on, not someone who will simply turn around and resell it for monetary gain.

SS manned up and admitted his part in this particular affair and apologized which is admirable KUDOS to you.

John you try way too hard to fit in here and be accepted, pandering to the oldtimers will gain you nothing but disrespect by all including those you are trying to please. You need to stand by your beliefs whatever they are, as mentioned earlier it matters not whether the person has 10 posts or 10,000 posts here right is right and wrong is wrong.

I occasionaly have disagreements with some of my closest friends here and if I see something that I think is wrong I will point it out and hopefully they will understand that I am only being honest and standing by my convictions no matter who they are, right is right and wrong is wrong. Who knows maybe they will be pissed at me for saying what I said but they will still respect me at the end of the day because I wasnt kissing their **** and hopefully we are still friends.

Dont be a politician just be honest with everyone, as the saying goes if you dont stand for something tou will fall for anything.

    REGARDS SNOW
Well, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all :D

H9 i'm certain was only bugged by the fact it was indeed a well-regarded member of the CP community. had it been a newb or nobody, then it wouldn't even have garnered his attention.

opinions were voiced. involved parties have pretty much come to see eye-to-eye. things are well and will continue to be. solid is and always will be a solid pillar of the community imho. but others who have chimed in are the ones who scare and bother me. the ones who "don't get it". and they don't get that they don't get it, though the principle behind it is very clear.

i've learned a few things about some members here just by way of this thread alone. i've come to conclude that i myself am now a "veteran" of CP as all those i felt would stand up for the right values, did. i wasn't really taken back by those who don't get it. everything fits.

some need not grow "thick skin" as is often referred to here, rather some need to grow some spine. there is a tremendous difference between the two.

edit: i also would like to add that i'm glad this was brought (back again) into light. and i would like to say that i was disappointed at first, but i think i like solid even MORE now that this has come up. he has spine. we've all done some **** we're not proud of. i do them on a weekly basis. but solid has all of my respect.

A survey of recent selling on CP is below.
In all fairness, I did find 3 instances where the CP deal was better (slightly) than the eBay deal (not shown below).

While I'm sure there have been some good deals shared among members here, overall the data suggests the Polk "flea market" tracks (albeit, a little high) the normal laws of supply and demand seen in more liquid markets such as eBay.

    Adcom 545
    CP ask $150
Average selling price on eBay (sold auctions) $131

    Samsung LN52A650
    CP ask $2500
Average selling price on eBay (sold auctions) $1644

    Adcom GFA-555II
    CP ask $325
Average selling price on eBay (sold auctions) $283

    Panasonic PT-AE900U
    CP ask $400
Average selling price on eBay (sold auctions) $298

    TX-SR876
    CP ask $850 (firm)
Average selling price on eBay (sold auctions) $849

    Marantz SR8002
    CP ask $1200
Average selling price on eBay (sold auctions) $1339 (1 sale)
Current eBay “buy it now price” $999 (refurbished)

    Marantz SR9200
    CP ask $1050
Average selling price on eBay (sold auctions) $610

    Onkyo TX-SR602
    CP ask $170
Average selling price on eBay (sold auctions) $101

    Onkyo TX-SR503
    CP ask $130
Average selling price on eBay (sold auctions) $50

I know I should just let it go, but since a couple of these items are mine:

    http://www.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/cls.pl?homevdeo&1256858865&/Panasonic-ae900-

    http://cgi.audiogon.com/cgi-bin/srch_fs.pl?searchstring=adcom

As far as buying with confidence, I'd say:
    1. CP
    2. Audiogon
    3. Craigslist (because it would be local)
    4. E-bay

Comparing CP to e-bay is a joke. I won't rehash what others have already stated, but there is a definite peace of mind that comes with buying (and selling) here.

As long as I'm typing, it's obvious H9 started this thread as a general discussion with no intention of outing anyone. It's also obvious that SS has stepped up to the plate and admitted he didn't use his best judgement in trying to flip the item.

Finally, as has been stated, this thread has done much to identify those who "get it" and those who don't.

    Totally agree!

And, lets not forget all the Karma and giving that goes on. I've received a couple really nice items for free, bought stuff at less than half what it would have cost on ebay, and even offered at least one big giveaway myself. I keep thinking about doing a Karma but I've been too lazy.

Well Hell!!! after reading all this I have no clue if I have done wrong or right here.

Now I am really confused.. :D "Not"

I picked up on this some time ago without anybody even telling me.

One thing about this thread (even if some here are having a disagreement)
is it is not TROLL related. at least there is some substance to this thread that one can take in and think about a little, wether you agree with it or not.

and to me the important thing is H9 and SS worked things out. there is something to learn and take in there as well, and shows that this place is more then just audio.

Now go turn the rig on crank the tunes, have a drink on me.

Came in late here, but for what its worth........A forum member trying to intentionally "Profiteer" off another for personal gains is inherently wrong, regardless of post count or status, and goes against the very being and spirit of Club Polk. I got it from Day-1, no kiss assing here, whats right is right. (Duh)

Happy amends were made between H9,blakeh,and Solid. (Solid says it all, good on you bro.:D) dont believe there was anything malicious on your part.
Great "Forgive and Forget" attitude being extended from those parties. Sad and surprised the way this thread turned, but maybe for the best. (Oh, thanks for the oven-fresh PIE, Mike.:D)
