A survey of recent selling on CP is below.
In all fairness, I did find 3 instances where the CP deal was better (slightly) than the eBay deal (not shown below).

While I'm sure there have been some good deals shared among members here, overall the data suggests the Polk "flea market" tracks (albeit, a little high) the normal laws of supply and demand seen in more liquid markets such as eBay.

    Adcom 545
    CP ask $150
Average selling price on eBay (sold auctions) $131

    Samsung LN52A650
    CP ask $2500
Average selling price on eBay (sold auctions) $1644

    Adcom GFA-555II
    CP ask $325
Average selling price on eBay (sold auctions) $283

    Panasonic PT-AE900U
    CP ask $400
Average selling price on eBay (sold auctions) $298

    TX-SR876
    CP ask $850 (firm)
Average selling price on eBay (sold auctions) $849

    Marantz SR8002
    CP ask $1200
Average selling price on eBay (sold auctions) $1339 (1 sale)
Current eBay “buy it now price” $999 (refurbished)

    Marantz SR9200
    CP ask $1050
Average selling price on eBay (sold auctions) $610

    Onkyo TX-SR602
    CP ask $170
Average selling price on eBay (sold auctions) $101

    Onkyo TX-SR503
    CP ask $130
Average selling price on eBay (sold auctions) $50

You are a **** stirring asshat!! Do a lil research on your own posts and you will see what I am saying, good thing I am not in charge of the ban button

First off over what time period was your data gathered? I know for a fact for example that the Adcom GFA-555II typically sells for between $300.00 to $400.00 not $283.00

Well, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all :D

Yeah cherry picking a small sample isn't going to fool any of us. There have been plenty of great deals, and on top of that you are more often than not, buying from a reliable person who's contributed to this forum, no way you are getting that from ebay, audiogon, or craigslist.

Also I do agree that if you got a good deal from this forum, and later want to sell the gear again online that you should put it back on the FM first. I feel the only exception should be is if you are selling the gear, because you really do need the money, not just to make an extra buck.

I generally do not get involved in these type of discussions but I guess this time I will.

I guess it depends on what you view a community like this is about. I have seen a whole lot of GREAT offers here....although moreso in the past than the present. I personally, have only purchased a couple of things here and I would never sell them for profit as to me it disgraces the spirit of the original offering. Having said that I may sell or give them to a buddy/family member and not necessarily offer it back to the forum.

I know it is in the purchasers "right" to do whatever they want with something that they own, it still just doesn't seem right for someone to do that...whether it was their original intent or not.

I view this as selling your buddy something at a price that is below market value as a gesture of friendship so that they can get the enjoyment that the product can bring them, and then they go and sell it for market value and turn a profit. It disgraces the spirit of the original gesture and would make me very angry.

    Hey Snow,

I just gathered and presented the data for discussion. I'm sorry if I'm an "asshat" for doing so. Personally, I think the data is rather interesting.

I gathered the data from eBay's most recent auctions. It's quite dynamic, actually. At the time of my post, 2 GFA-555II had sold. One for $242, another for $325, hence my $283 average. I notice another has sold for $344 tonight, bringing the average up to just over $300, closer to the range you mentioned.

    Best regards, Chris :eek::eek:

Also, I never refuted that there have probably been some great deals traded here among friends. Overall, however, a quick survey of the data is suggestive that CP flea market pricing mirrors other online markets such as eBay, et al.

    Take care, Chris

First off the discussion here is about deals gotten from other CP members and re selling those items it has nothing to do with items bought elsewhere and sold here. Secondly if something is priced higher here than it can be gotten elswhere easily it most likely wont sell.

Part of the reason why I buy here and on other forums is as mentioned earlier by others is that you are buying from someone that you feel you can trust to be both honest in their listing and more likely to arrive safely than Ebay. I asked a fellow on Audiogon a question today about an amp he is selling whether he was a member of some of the forums I am a member of so I could check out his posts simply because I would feel far more comfortable buying from someone I can quickly get a feel for then a stranger, that by itself is worth a lot to me.

At minimum, the seller should be notified.

Now I understand, things come up and you need the money...but I dont think I'd have the balls to double the price somewhere else. If anything, sell it for a little more back on the FM, but still let the seller know.

I have never bought or sold anything on the FM, but I dont have a need for home audio, everything I do is car audio...and I get things below cost as I work at a shop...but it doesnt take a genius to figure out how things work around here.

I'd really have to be in fear of losing my house or something before I'd ever dream of doubling the price on another forum...and usually that stuff doesnt pop up in a week.

A contract is between seller and buyer. This contract is discreet. Through goodwill the terms are met and accomplished. Why all of this in the publics eye? You, as a polk family and keeping the traditions alive, have violated the very concepts you speak of. Sell, resell, keeping it in the family. Yet, this is not a family and a place to insult. A person's reputation is built on countless acts of good, and...... merely ruined by one.... Do all of you sleep better because of this?

Stop making this personal, and attacking others. This thread has more or less become members against members. This is a very sensitive subject, calling out each person is not going to earn bonus points. Yet, when a thread comes along and everyone complains that it is not the same club polk anymore, why? The very contributions that are occurring now.
