Disappointing. But yet another reason why I am refraining from purchasing any more "double dips" on old titles from DVD to BD; I've been burned on this road before.

Mike, read reviews. I won't ever upgrade to a Blu-Ray unless I know it is a upgrade. I like to read reviews from sites like HighDefDigest, AVS, HomeTheaterSpot. Blu-Ray.com, etc.

Some reviewers are more technical, and pickup on things that others don't. If all of them agree that a Blu is far and above superior in both Video and Audio quality, I will put it on my list.

Then I will wait for a BOGO sale at Amazon, wait for the price to drop on Half.com, or wait for a 25% off sale on DVD Planet. My average price for a blu ray is ~$15.

As for Gladiator, if the issues are as egregious as they are made out to be, I will wait for the proper release or re-release in 6-8 months. Then I will wait another 2-3 months until I can get it for <$15.

What are you talking about, you horse's ****...

Nice vocabulary for a professional reviewer that supposedly publishes in printed and online media. I would think you would know about Google, and that nothing is hidden in the internet.

Can't you take a little sarcasm? You should learn how to control yourself.

when did I ever say that everything I post MUST be so perfect?

You don't really have to say it.

I was just trying to help clarify something for you.....

Help me? Who cares which version of the STD DVD. Everyone understood what I meant. I think you just couldn't resist the opportunity to show you know it all.

    Pffft.

    If anyone preordered from Amazon.....

Best Buy has both of them at $22.99, PLUS A $10 discount if bought together (for me it was $38.32 including tax)

    http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=pcmcat190500050009&type=category

There's still time to cancel Amazon's order.

Ive ordered a Blu-ray player but, naturally, dont have any disks to try on it. A quick trawl around Play, Amazon etc and it seems theres no real bargains to be had there. So ...

Wheres the place for cheap BDs?

I completely agree with you. I've been waiting on Gladiator for a very long time. Hope they didn't screw it up. From what I seen on AVS, they used allot of DNR in the process. I don't want to end up purchasing this like twice due to a screw up.

    Ignorance is bliss.

I have no idea what DNR is and I never want to. Like the day I opened a thread on EE, wish I never did. All those damn nit-picky video(pile) people ruined movies with EE for me. Now, if a movie has it, it's nothing but a distraction.

I'm glad I'm not a videophile and can actually just watch a movie for the sake of the storyline. I don't care if I can see the hair coming out of someones nose or not...really not a big concern...lol

My vocabulary is kind of limited when it comes to rating video quality.

    1. That looks like crap!
    2. That looks decent.
    3. That looks pretty decent.
    4. That looks awesome!

If anyone wants to know what the issues are w/ the Gladiator Blu-Ray theres a good thread over on High Def Digest that shows the issues quite well. Sad, excessive DNR is causing arrows and parts of spears to disappear

    1st Pro review is up -> http://www.thedigitalbits.com/reviewshd/bdreviews083109.html#gla
So let me be clear: Gladiator on Blu-ray is watchable - especially if you have a smaller screen. On the comparative grading scale we use for Blu-ray, the very best DVD video and audio quality would be graded a 10, while top Blu-ray quality would be a 20. So at 15.5, this is definitely an improvement over the previous DVD releases. The problem is, most high-quality Blu-ray titles these days score in the 18-19 range. So while this disc is watchable, that's just not good enough, either for the format as a whole or for most fans and enthusiasts.

Funny how they say it's "Watchable"; has a rating of 15.5, with a max possible rating of 10 for the best Std DVD??? That for me gets it into the excellent arena.

These guys are not watching the movie; they are looking for defects. I am sure the average Joe (and Ricardo) will find it awesome.

Do you have to trade in the DVD, or just prove you own it?
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

Picked both up today from BB for 38 bucks. BB has both priced at 22.99 plus $10 off at the register if you buy both. Plus the mail in $10 rebate if you own them already so it makes it very cheap.

Reports are coming and saying Gladiator does look very good on Blu. So no worries guys, go get it.

Rebate is for both, so yes, final cost will be around $9 each. Not bad at all.

I picked these up on the way home yesterday, popped in here to answer Bob's question regarding the $10 rebate, and looks like you guys have already done that. Yep it's $10 each for both movies and all you need is the prroof of purchase from the original dvd. I picked these up yesterday for ~$34, then applied a $10 reward zone gift cert that was expiring this weekend, brought it to $24, tack on the $20 in rebates and I'm at $4 for two blu-rays, awesome!

I've been waiting on these for a LONG time, took today off ti sit at home and watch them by myself.

Post your thoughts on Gladiator, I'm now reading comments that the lossless audio doesn't even stand up to the DTS track on the DVD. Sounds like this title got one hell of a fubar release to Blu.

The sound is a big dissapointment along with the picture issues I was better off buying the DVD version. I had the DVD but someone borrowed it and didn't return it I used that DVD as demo material for the sound but this bray is horrible.
