Where has the quality of CP gone?????

I posted this rant in a post but thought it deserved its own topic. Here is what I posted....

All I can say is when I first joined this forum (which was not to long ago) it was a wealth of knowledge. Now all it is, is a wealth of BS. More than half of the members who have a ton of audio info/experience rarely post anymore because of this type of crap. I for one miss the advanced technical info. this forum 'had' to offer. Just as I felt I was learning the ins and outs of this very intricate hobby the members that had the most to offer now just lay by the sideline watching the chaos unfold. I do realize this is the 'anything goes' section of CP but for the love of audio, please, please, please, grow up. Even the other sections are the same ol, same ol, nothing new.......Sorry for the rant as I have been drinking but it's the truth. Grow up you F'ING MORONS!!!!

Imo, I believe the admins/mods of the CP forums need to remember that in the posting rules that there is a part that states........9) Forum rules & guidelines are not up for debate. This is not a democracy, but rather a private forum owned by Polk Audio. Anyone openly debating the rules we have set in place will be removed."

I am not debating the policies in any way, but the enforcement that was once here is long gone!!!!!! Quality and attention to detail is what set Polk apart from its competitors. Lately here on the forums it's a free for all and people get away with murder. Please restore dignity to this forum that was once here and that attracted and made this one of, if not the best audio forum on the internet. Rant over.

I'm with you BigMac but the older members will tell you that such 'swings' are in the nature of this site. Talk to Doro or Finut! They KNOW! As well as a number of others. I've read far too many posts about HOW OFTEN THIS HAPPENS! It's like a rite of passage and seems to usually peak after the X-mas season.

This year, however, the PEAK has extended itself into what will soon be July.

I'd say keep drinking and wait a bit....

I do undersand there is a cycle to things, but this is insane. CP has turned into the Jerry Springer show X 1,000,000. It seems like 'drama' is the topic here everyday now. Justin would have shut down so many of these recent threads it's not even funny. I believe Matt Polk, if still here, would be appauled at what is happening to his lifes work. For example, when you do a Google search on a vast number of audio topics, the Polk site comes up. After reading past posts that were informative new 'potential' Polkies that may continue browsing the site for info. will run across all these trolling idiots and wonder why the staff of Polk sits by and lets CP turn into the Springer show. I for one miss the info. and knowledge that alot of members have to offer. Every once in awhile I see old members posting, but it's usually in response to an "old" members questions or post. I have been drinking and going through alot in the last month (hence why I am drinking) but audio is the one thing imo that can take you from happy to sad in an instant. Audio is a great thing to have but how are you supposed to understand it as a noob and take it seriously if this is the crap we have to put up with? Yes there are other sources for info. but once you find somewhere that you can call 'home' it's hard to see that the Polk admins/mods are letting this site go downhill. This is just my opinion, and you know what they say to that. This site is a very valuable resource and lately it had been nothing more than a drama show.

Sorry for editing so much but as I reread my post I see a tons of spelling errors due to me being toasted, lol.

    +1 BigMac

It's alot more common than you think, and I do agree with you very much. I've been on other forums for +2-3years and have seen them go to ****. That's part of the reason why my passion for computers/OC'ng etc has somewhat diminished. Audio was another hobby of mine, and from time to time I try to offer knowledge based off of personal experience. I mean heck I've learned alot myself from being on this forum and would like to thank the "old" members that stick around and continue to offer their wealth of knowledge as well. We can only hope that the trolling dies down, or simply just bite the bullet and ignore it.

I think people are over-reacting here. For every troll that comes along we get atleast 10 good new members and then the trolls don't last long. Also if you check, there are loads of threads where new members are asking questions and they get politely helped by all on a daily basis. . . i.e., new members and vets.

The only thing that is really out of control is the tag abuse.

I still find plenty to read here technically (clubhouse aside). This site continues to be a wealth of knowledge for me. If you regulars want to help people (like you have in the past), perhaps CP needs that "view unanwsered post" link some tech forums have here to bring lonely post to attention quicker. I see plenty of unanswered questions in speakers (I'm not qualified to answer)...

Big Mac, the same questions over and over gets real old, real fast. I wish we had a better search function.

There are so many times when a new poster asks a question that has been asked atleast 50 times, myself personally, I just don;t have the energy to answer it for the 51st time. When I first joined DIYAUDIO.COM I spent aboit 2-3 weeks using the search function and it was amazing how much I learned before even making my first post.

I suspect very few if any noob's have the patience to use the search function.

ya think??? It's a mixed bag, true though, newbs still get good info overall.

you up for some afternoon delight GD:eek: I do have some new chaps to break-in. We can warm some NOS by the fire and play MASH with some of the hospital instruments youv'e stashed.

We are headed for the bottom, hopefully, after the final crash there will be an upturn, if anybody is left who really cares. Its one of the lowest low's I can remember.

I think the BigMac makes a valid point.

I agree the immaturity of the tags is pretty disgusting, a good idea gone very bad.

I would say the tags are the thing that annoy me the most. Total abuse and totally uncalled for. It could have been a great way to make the search function easier to use. But instead it's a sandbox for the kiddies.

I understand the frustration here sometimes but in the end CP is still better than any other forum I used to visit. I have not been to AVSFORUM in monthes.

I love this place and learn a lot and my system has beneifted from coming here.

I see a lot of elders helping people everyday even if the question has been asked many times. I see read those as sometimes I pick up something new.

I am not adding value here or offering any solutions but just want to reconize Club Polk is still the best as far as I am concerned.

What other forums offer Karma's and help to each other like CP ? I sent a guy some Triton and guess what, he sent me 3 albums. ANother example is some T-nuts I sent a guy, he is sending me some stuff.

There was guy who was going to sell his vintage speakers so he could get a surround system for his kids to watch movies, people here helped him out so he would keep his vintage Polks.

WHAT SITE DOES THIS KIND OF STUFF DAILY ?

I for one have learned a whole lot with this forum, I admit I was an idiot early on but I think at the time (during the holiday season) when I joined I dropped into a very controversial thread and It went to crap from there. I think this is a great place to learn about audio, its gotten pretty easy to ignore the b.s. posts and you just have to be careful posting your opinions about a sensitive topic. Thanks to everyone who has helped me.

that's the economy. it dragged down prices of used gear, and many people dont want to part with good stuff at the low prices. I'm in that boat with some of my stuff.

I personally have just run out of technical things to post. I am done with my set up and I have been here so long that most of the audio questions now have been asked one million times ( sometimes I answer) or they are too advanced 2 channel tube stuff. I admit I return to CP mostly for the Music and Movie info and clubhouse anymore.

I find myself participating less every day. I guess it's time for a change and my view of this forum is wrong. I don't get the confy feeling anymore.

Some people will say "what do you expect, it's the internet", but that's exactly the point. For me, this was NOT the internet". Now it is, and we have all those **** right here.

Oh well, time will tell if it's a cycle. I just don't find it fun anymore. Of course no one will miss me if I stop coming. But I will miss what this place once was.

If you want to ban trolls / **** / newbies / old trolls, we need to ban the IP associated with their account. If it's their home connection IP, they can still use proxy or post from work. So, there are still loopholes even if their IP is banned.

But I am sure it can be done. Ban the newbie trolls first. Enforce the rules. And also ban the old members who became a troll and pissing off the newbie. Basically, ban everyone who violates the rules. May be no one left in CP but it's kinda peaceful.

I think the amount of noobs that are showing up on CP has a lot to say about the other audio/HT forums out there. I cruise a few of the other forums and it's pretty bleak and most of the advice revolves around buying the forum favored brand or gear rather than real help with an issue. That and a few of our newcomers are here as the next step in what seems to be a goal of of getting in trouble on every forum they join. The same thing happens on other hobby forums I participate in. It may just be an unintended consequence of Polk Audio's continued success.

I really don't think the search function is all that bad. The problem is that the newcomers need to at least try to use it and do some research prior to just posting a question and expecting everyone to jump immediately to their aid. And this ain't twitter or yourface, so being able to construct sentances that convey thoughts using real words and at least close spellings of those words would help those posters greatly, you don't have to be perfect but you at least need to try.
