I'm not all that impressed; pretty minor changes from the 3G. Some speedup and battery life changes, and a new camera, but everything else is software that's being released for the 3G (ie the MMS, which should have been in the phone when it was first released). I like the bump in size to 32GB but again, it's an incremental change, nothing to get too excited about (compared to previous announcements, at least).

Already ordered mine. The auto focus camera, compass, 7.2 Mbits connection, much faster processor and OpenGL ES 2.0 support should be fun to play with.

Should arrive on June 19th. This is my first iphone, I have a ipod touch that I love and hate having to carry it and my phone, so now I'll be down to one device at last!

I find it funny that all this is considered a big feature upgrade. My Samsung Omnia is a full touchscreen running WinMo. It has a 5 mpixel camera with video capability out of the box. Flash, autofocus, all that good stuff. And, it cost me $50 with my new every 2 and the included 70 MIR. iPhone? No thanks.

I will most likely get one. I am relenting mostly because I am supporting one of the few US products that the world go gaga and we have the leadership...(I semi kid), but seriously, I think now is the time since battery life has improved to a practical level without the bulkiness of extended battery such as on my ATT Tilt. And yes, faster surfing, video, and cool apps.
I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

Yeah, but, you're stuck with ATT service. Around here, ATT is crap for signal. Verizon is where it's at :)

It is so simple to jailbreak and unlock the older iPhones and get them to do most of the stuff they (Att) will be allowing them to do. Only thing is Att and Tmobile went different ways with baseband's so the newer ones wont be unlockable until the hackers figure it out.

Sigh. First of all, it's a piece of god damn consumer electronics. The vitriol people show towards it is ASTOUNDING. "HEY, the thing I overpaid for is WAY BETTER than the thing you overpaid for, also YOUSUCK!"

Second, I am not an Apple guy by any stretch - I loathe the "Apple tax" and a lot of their various business practices and particularly marketing dishonesty. HOWEVER, the iPhone has never been about having the newest technology, it's been about putting them together in the best way possible, especially from a software perspective. Just the fact that you guys talk about WinMo phones shows that you have no idea what I'm talking about, because those are some of the most unwieldy and clunky devices imaginable from a usability standpoint (and yes I use Windows on my home PC and prefer it to OSX).

As for the MMS thing, Apple said from the get-go that it wasn't supported in the original iPhone because they felt it was a dead technology and that mobile email should be the future.... they were obviously wrong but it's not like they kept it out because the phone couldn't handle it.

Just saying, the iPhone isn't without its faults but you're hard-pressed to find an iPhone owner who doesn't like their device, whereas I've seen a million people want to smash their WinMo devices off a wall.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

Iphone is the best phone on the market, for most people. The Omnia is nice, but to me the Iphone is clearly better(screen, apps, media player), and I bet this new camera is better than the Omnia's it's not just about the megapixels.

And just like Bob said it has it's imperfections, but still a great phone.

"Better read the fine print, friends. Apple said today that the iPhone 3G S costs $199 (16GB) and $299 (32GB). But that’s the price only for new AT&T customers. The price if you’re already an AT&T customer and/or are upgrading from an iPhone 3G? Try $699 (32GB), $599 (16GB), and $499 (8GB).

Yes, new firmware is free to iPhone users, comes out next week.

That's misleading. It's not "new" AT&T customers, it's customers who are making a new OR RENEWING their contract. You know, like every subsidized phone on the market. Try buying a Blackberry or one of those WinMo phones without a contract, they'll cost you five or six hundred bucks easy.

    Got this from MMI forum.....

"Due to my high interest, I gave at&t a call, as well as apple. Both of them were unsure regarding upgrade prices. So instead, I went to Apple's online store again, and decided to "Pre-Order" the new iPhone 3GS. I entered my information, and I entered the phone number that had the eligible upgrade plan, and VIOLA; it said straight up right there; $199 for 16GB and $299 for 32GB. (Yes I am an existing AT&T customer, and YES I did upgrade my own line to iPhone 3G one year ago, thats why I am using another family members upgrade to upgrade my own phone, because my line is not yet eligible)."

Im a T-Mo iPhone user so i cant confirm....

You buy an Iphone because of the operating system and for Apps.

Endless capabilities when anyone is invited to "improve the wheel" so to speak and get paid for it.
You don’t buy because you really believe AT&T is a competent wireless provider. It is smokin’ when it on Wi-Fi and not their abysmal 3g network. I left Verizon because they rested on their laurels for having an excellent wireless network. However I was increasingly dissatisfied in their lousy uninspiring line up of phones. Not to mention that Verizon disables features like Wi-Fi and V-Cast is a overpriced worthless proprietary piece o' crap.
The new Palm Pre looks interesting but I’ll stay put and enjoy my I phone Apps. I'm looking forward to the 3.0 upgrade. Not having video on my version is not a deal breaker for me. I have a nice little Cannon that shoots great consumer grade videos.

Btw, if you buying the Iphone for the first time, buy it from an Apple store. It’s a much more pleasant experience that dealing with AT&T.

I'm sorry, did I give the impression that I was speaking for EVERY Verizon phone? Perhaps I should have correctly said they have done this with several models. The important point for me is that for me is that the features and capabilities of the IPhone outweighed the occasional inconvenience of AT&T's lousy network.
btw, the last Verizon phone I owned less than a year ago ( Blackberry 8830 World Edition) disabled the Wi Fi feature. I know other Verizon users that have expressed this complaint about other models. Good to hear they don't do this for all models. Here is one discussion. If you do a search, you will find others.

I am an unfortunate owner of an iPhone 3g... it's not a phone, its a toy... or media player, or whatever you want to call it, but it's not a phone. Reasons: no mms, 2 hr or less battery life when talking, 8 hours with common use.

New one with mms, video messaging, cool... these features can already be obtained on the 3g, but should have already been there. I want to hear something about battery life!

I love my current original iphone. My wife loves hers. All my friends including my boss loves it. I never met anyone who ownes a iphone who doesn't love it.

The new one is really nice and has the features I want. So I'm getting one.

My battery currently lasts 2 days without charge. I surf, email , IM , Use the phone on and off all day long. I use the Ipod in it when I go bike riding and if someone calls, I can keep riding and talk at the same time. When I'm off the phone, it goes back to what I was listening 2. Thats way badass. I never have battery problems. I holds a charge longer then I expect due to the amount I use it. My wife is on hers most of the time. Her battery lasts a long time as well.

But my bottom line is I love it. I have everything I need in my pocket. it's totally awesome. If I need a answer or tech spec, I whip out my iphone and get it with the quickness. I could not even dream of asking anymore out of a phone or mobil device.

Apple Rules, Iphone Rules, Mac rules. OSX rules.
