sounds like she may really want to go or is afraid of old GF or something. Taking a bullish attitude will not fix it. You need to sit with her and have a calm conversation and LISTEN !

Let me get this straight.... You are upset that your wife is upset that you don't want her to go with you to your high school reunion because it will be more 'fun' without her - your wife? Yeah..I really can't see why that should be a problem.

If I can't go to an adult social gathering where a date or a spouse is generally expected without my wife, I don't go. The same with her on her end of things. She doesn't go to things where she is the lead and I am the "significant other" if I cannot make it.

That doesn't mean that we don't have separate guys or girls night out, but if it is a situation were a couple/date is expected to be in tow (confirmed bachler or bachlerette excepting), then that is how we handle it. My wife and I are a team! You don't go to a "ballgame" with only half of your "team" present. (IMHO).

Just be like me and find your entire high school class so distasteful and mind-numbingly shallow that you couldn't even be bothered if they actually sent you a notice or invitation or not.

It's high school, dude. If the wife wants to go, find a solution. But if your life hasn't progressed far enough that high school is nothing but a fond memory then maybe your wife has a point.

But I've always seen reunions as a chance to see how far everyone has grown and where they have gotten in their lives. It's a chance to catch up and find out about what's been going on and reminisce about the high school days. I've always found that those who go to a high school reunion expecting it to be a chance to behave like you are in high school again get sorely disappointed. Especially when you haven't talked to these people in over 20 years. They are gonna be different. And old. And boring. And you may think it'll be more fun without the S.O. but I promise you, it's not.

Time to opt out of going on this one. I agree with Danger, spend the money you would have spent going to the reunion on her and send her to a day at the spa. Invite over some friends you HAVE talked to later than 88 and watch a movie. Your relationship with her is way more important than seeing a bunch of people who haven't cared enough to contact you in 20 years.

Sounds to me that the relationship may have some underlying issues. It's a HS reunion for Christsakes,, if it's that big of an issue, and it appears as though it is,especially now that family has been brought into it,,take her with you,, IMHO,, this never should have developed into what it is now.Ask yourself(and/or wife),,is this the hill I choose to die on? Good luck, hope things work out.

This thread got me thinking about my wife, so i called her and asked her out on a date for tomorrow night.

I could hear the excitement in her voice, it has been way over due.

    Thanks Doggie!!

+10 on that Jstas! I went to my 20th year, wife in tow, to find out in person how all of these folks I came up with during my formulative years made out over time. Some did well and some did not do so well. Of personal interest, many of the really cute chicks I lusted for had turned into the dumpy mom types. A couple had hardly changed at all (other than showing an additional 20 years of age). Still, a couple of the fat, ugly, chicks turned out to become MILFs! :D

All in all, a worth while experience. Wouldn't have been there had my wife had not attended with me and wouldn't have considered missing such an event with regret without my wife being there by my side.

The biggest problem is not your wife -- it's that you're actually planning to attend your HS reunion.

Are you related to Al Bundy by chance?

Seriously -- it ain't important. Either you both go or you both stay at home. Make a decision together, but take the option of going alone off the table.

Isn't it cool! The little things, like asking for a date, rekindles the fire that brought you two together in the first place. ;) My wife always gets a giddy girl voice when I occasionally ask her out for a date on the phone. :D Our 20th anniversary is coming up.

You get rewards after? All I get is a burp and a f@rt followed by snoring ... must be drinking too much wine when we're going out ... j/k, he he!

To the OP, if you're not enjoying the thought of what you consider to be potentially enjoyable outings with the wifey, you might want to consider why that is the case. The fact that you consider "her clan have brainwashed her and NOW she is making a big deal out of it for not going" seems to indicate other issues as well, and that you already think that it's you against them (and she's siding with them).

Al Bundy's story, seems to be the norm, not the exception. All the geeks and outcasts are probably still on their 1st marriage, and living an upper middle-class lifestyle, while all the "IT" kids, who had a promising future, are probably on their 3rd marriage, and raging alcoholics.

Agreed with the others Dog, surprise her with a nice dress/gown or something cute and let her tag alone. Better to work this out way before hand with a discussion over a nice dinner and bottle of wine. Sux being in the dog house bro. Good luck with it. WOOF!!

as lomng as you can say , "I will have a good/better time without her", there will be problms....

And I think she knows that.....that`s the real issue, IMO

I am sure she could get a sitter if she really tried....she just doesn`t want to go, so do something together on the day of the reunion instead of going....show her you have her back.....

    ....that`s all she`s lookin for...

Because of my health, my wife has had to step up and take care of me....alot !

trust me, she doesn`t "want" to, and she could easily have alot more fun without me, but she has my back......and I have hers.

`course if I can`t wipe my own arse, she`s puttin me in a home !!!

But we`ll deal with it if it happens...!!!
