As far as I understand it, yes. This is exactly how console games work when playing online.

This is the first PC game that I have seen that doesn't allow dedicated servers/custom gameplay.

I'm relatively new to xbox but compared with Halo 3 matchmaking this is awful. No group parties from what I can tell either.

    That's wrong.

You can group up in Team Deathmatch and many other game modes. The only thing they changed is they won't allow party chat in Team Deathmatch and a few other modes now due to "cheating."

We group up all the time.

I find it ridiculous that you have to play 1 certain type of game in order to play with a bunch of your friends.

The only reason to buy the game on the PC was because you could play ANY game mode you wanted to with your friends. You could play all sorts of fun (and boring) custom game modes created by other players.

Without the dedicated servers, none of that is possible (technically)

No offense, but your anger at Infinity Ward for **** up the online play for the PC (which I would be too) seems to be making you blow things out of proportion.
Yea, not having party chat for 6/6 deathmatch kind of sux, but the reasoning is sound, and there's plenty of other modes to play with it.

Besides, ground war is way more fun anyways. :D

There's always TeamSpeak if you're playing with friends. Not having dedicated servers is a big thing though, they shouldn't have done that. On top of not being able to configure your own or choose the one you like, I'm assuming now also one of the players is a "host" which can't be good. Will they transfer the host duties to another player if the host drops out?

Speaking of, this was also a first time when I see a confirmation window asking me if I really want to drop out in the middle of a deathmatch. Do I really care if it "counts as a loss" on my record, or something. If I have to go, I have to go. What if my connection dropped, is that such a big deal as well?

All in all, small things but somewhat annoying. I still like the game very much. In some things this thing really reminds me of the original Call of Duty, especially the implementation around your crosshair and IIRC also HUD. I also like the realistic damage, it's not like Battlefield where you have to unload your whole clip on the enemy just to damage them a little, these guns actually kill.

Right, like a noob I said it wrong. We group up as well but no private party chat during the game. It does take longer to match and start a game. During the matching process there seems to be more frequent "booting" players or hosts from servers and then the process starts again.

I love the game though - even if I suck!

Yes, and the transfer works reasonably well most of the time.

If I was a PC gamer, I would be annoyed at the changes. But as a console guy, I'm pretty happy with them

should there be more than one codmw2 threads or should we continue on this crazy road of cross-platforms in hopes of reaching page 58? it's sort of a distraction continually trying to filter out who is on what platform, even with the list that keeps getting bumped back a few pages.
