That's insane--to think that at least 4 of those were likely just for surround speakers. Wow.

shadowofnight you seriously have to start using the quote feature. Its difficult reading your posts with respect to figuring out what you are saying or what you are quoting someone else as saying. ;)

That is an insane use of those amps, I thought using an audiosource amp300 and SDA 2b's was overkill for my mancave surrounds :D

I am usually really good with the quotes...lots of pain and heavy pain meds today changed that...looking back at the craigslist post I can see what you meant ;)

So I can hook my amps to a resistor and get rid of the speakers..............

    because:

If a speaker is just a resistor
and a speaker can be hooked to an amp
a resistor can be hooked to an amp

I bet the tunes will be hopping tonight in the shed

I can hook my amp up to a computer and watch it idle..............

man a whole new path to explore

sure those JC-1's are great, but what about the Emu?? I thought it was going to make everyone shut down, now Krell, and Levinson and McIntosh need to close their doors because of Parasound???

    Wow.

I wrote Dr. West from Sound Lab and told him his speakers were just simple resistive devices. He wrote me back and asked me to never write him again.

Has nothing to do with power though, hey App where you been??? I say buy yourself a power conditioner, plug it in, set up the Rig, and enjoy the music, do not be a loser.

I've successfully used dozens and dozens of APC brand UPS products in my computer support business for a decade with great results. I'm not an EE so I don't know if there is a technical difference in the "clean power" a PC requires versus the "clean power" an amp, CD player. turntable or television requires.

I guess I've assumed a properly sized unit would provide clean power to anything attached, and currently have them protecting my plasma TV screens (but not yet my 2 channel rigs).

Is there a known deficiency with the internal components (capacitors, resistors, transistors, etc.) used by APC that would not pass proper power to audiophile grade components ????

I sent the specs for my JC 1 amps to APC along with the following question:

"Are the APC units designed for computer equipment suitable for use with high quality, high power (300 watts per channel and above) audio amplifiers?

The JC 1's are "fast" amplifiers with high slew rates and high peak current demands.

Can the UPS respond as quickly as required to the instantaneous current demands put on an amplifier by a rapidly changing music signal with a moderate amount of low frequency content?

I have some concern about noise and harmonics in this application."

    I received this response:

    "(John Collier) - 03/19/2009 01:05 PM

    Dear Ray,

Thank you for your information. I would like to recommend, that you speak to some resellers that could make a call on this. They sell our A/V equipment and would know about this. Please let me know what they say.

    Kind regards."

ohmy.gifOh no they di-int! So whatcha gonna do? You gonna track down some resellers and get back to the tech support guy at APC?

Yeah. Sure. But right now, all the tuits in my toolbox are squares and hexagons. I have some round tuits on order. I'll attend to this immediately after the round tuits arrive.~DK
