Well...since we already have this thread going...
One issue that I've been noticing, is that in member profiles, a bunch of the information on the right side is covered up. All of the tabs(visitor messages, about me, statistics etc.) go all the way to the edge of the right side of the screen, and cover up the various sidebars(mini statistics, friends list etc.).
I don't know if anyone else has this problem, but I figured this would be the place to bring it up.The nirvana inducer-

As far as trash not be posted, well, I am still here whacking away most days, not to even mention 13 posts a day for Curt.

I see the same issue using FF 3.0.5, IE7, Google Chrome and Apple Safari. Seems to be related to the Window size-almost like the left frame is not resizing. In all but Safari, if the window is stretched wider it can look correct. Safari is just hosed.____________________

Well, there's the solution right there ...... by my reckoning, if you get up about 3:30 am, you can make it to work by 4:30 am, deep-six any offending posts by the Night Owl Crowd, and the Day Folks won't be affected in the least !
(Day Folks never cause any problems)
Yeah ! That'll work !!!

Justin,
Prehaps there's a mod you could do to take screen pictures shots so you know whom stated what to who. Doing that you can place the edit again, and you know what someone did to someone else.

There is already something in place that takes a snapshot of every edit, so I don't see why this is necessary."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche

< Justin fires up his computer. What's this? A reported post!? Gasp! Clicks the link, reads it over. Gee, another internet fight. Looks to me like Guy #2 shouldn't be fighting and calling people jerks. BANNED. >
I simply don't have the time or the energy to "investigate" who was right, who was wrong. Editing out things you regret saying makes my job harder. And trust me, I don't need that.
This way I can see exactly what was said without wading through logs and change histories, and take the correct action that needs to be taken.
Childish? No, more like selfish, on my part. But the best part is, you actually have to think before you post something. Gotta love it! I know it can be frustrating sometimes, especially on "For Sale" threads. I'm looking into a solution for just that section, but thus far, haven't found anything.
Side note: Since the inception of the no-edit rule, there have been a DRAMATIC decrease in number of fights, and reported posts (I should know, I keep a log). And here I thought I was just making my life easier, turns out I've saved a lot of unwanted trash from getting posted on Polk's forum. WIN WIN!
Enjoy.

If picture was taking place why is Justin feel non edit policy is needed? His input seems like this is why there's this rule.

Sorry to come late to this party, but I often wondered about the no edit rule. I guess I am still a Polk forum virgin, but I wondered why I could not modify or delete a post if I am the original poster...
Let's say I posted an item for sale in the classified and it sold. Would it not be better to be able to delete that post than to let it clog up memory or at the least viewing space.
Also, on posts that have mulitple items listed. If some items are sold, why is it not possible to adjust or modify the post without having to reply to the thread which seems inefficient.

Justin, is there any way to set review, tutorial, and flea market posts so that they would be editable by the thread author?Proud and loyal citizen of the Digital Domain and Solid State Country! -

When the seller indicates in the thread that an item is SOLD, I believe a moderator changes the ICON of the thread from FOR SALE to SOLD. Also as new posts in the FM come in the old threads flow down.
Editable or not - that wouldn't impact server memory any.____________________

I realize this is the way it used to be and I don't know if there ever were or not, any issues, but doesn't anybody have a concern about editable Flea Market posts? Such as a seller changing terms or descriptions without potential or confirmed buyers really knowing what was changed? Some FM threads can get quite long. A potential buyer may read them all but not really know to reread them (manually look for the edited posts) for any changes that happened in the last hour or even the last week or more if it were still available.
Just seems to me to be more of a PITA for the potential buyers, and a risk if a seller is not fully honest. Again is it really that difficult to read the whole thread on an item somebody is interested in?
I like the psuedo non-repudiation of a non-editable (after 20 minutes which is reasonable IMO) flea market. If an edit is really necessary couldn't one ask a moderator to make a change for you?
Not to compare ClubPolk to eBay, but eBay does have rules governing item descriptions and pricing or should I say listing rules, probably for the very concerns I stated above.____________________

I kind of agree, I like being able to see price change history and know that nothing was secretly updated after-the-fact.
There are also many legitimate times that it would make life easier if the posts could be edited. Unfortunately you can't really have the best of both worlds.Speakers: Polk LSi15

Yes, in this case you put an undue strain on the moderator. He(she) has to search through each post in a thread to find the word "SOLD"
Example:
I posted an item in the flea market and it was sold. The flag still shows it up for sale 2 days later. Someone may see that the item is still available and end up reading the entire thread only to find out that it is sold at the bottom. That can be frustrating and a waste of time. If I could have changed the icon or deleted the post, then no harm no foul. I can also see where an item's description may have to be altered. What if an item is listed as excellent condition suddenly got dropped and damaged. How does the OP modify or delete their description in a timely manner?
Another case is one that I mentioned about multiple items in one post. What if one of the items sells and the other item is still available? Why can' t the OP edit the the post to remove the unavailable item. There is a capability to justify the edit. Again if the moderator is needed to screen and make all changes, then it is cumbersome, highly inefficient and almost smacks of being a "control freak" mentality.
My apologies to our moderator as I am not implying that he is a control freak.
As for the "memory" issue I brought up in the other post, I wasn't just referring to the server memory, but my own memory. Having to scroll down through a lot of for sale posts only to find that many of them are no longer available is taxing..
There. I have said my peace and I will go back to drinking....;) -
When a post is edited, there is a small line informing everyone that the post was edited, so one cannot secretly edit.
But there was no way to know what was edited, nor did someone always know to re-look through every post thus far to see if any edits were made. Personally, as a buyer, I just kind of like it for a trail of pricing history. I also like being able to look at past for-sale posts for items that I'm interested in to see their listing price instead of seeing "$old".
I also have run into - and have had to content with - the other side of the editing issue and in many cases it's nice to be able to edit things.
But it is what it is - I didn't make the rule. I'm just saying that I like being able to see the true posting history in many cases.Speakers: Polk LSi15
