Yes, in this case you put an undue strain on the moderator. He(she) has to search through each post in a thread to find the word "SOLD"

    Example:
I posted an item in the flea market and it was sold. The flag still shows it up for sale 2 days later. Someone may see that the item is still available and end up reading the entire thread only to find out that it is sold at the bottom. That can be frustrating and a waste of time. If I could have changed the icon or deleted the post, then no harm no foul....

The moderator setting the thread flag to SOLD is the way it is currently being run now. I don't know the exact process, but I read somewhere that the moderator handles it. I don't know if that came along with the edit rule, or it were always that way. Its not perfect and some things are missed, but that could easily be rectified by sending the moderator a message. For the most part though I've seen fairly timely flag updates on sales.

Not sure why anyone would care about any extra work on the moderator or admins, I would imagine that role comes with the expectation of performing some amount of work. Especially is somewhat self inflicted.

.... What if an item is listed as excellent condition suddenly got dropped and damaged. How does the OP modify or delete their description in a timely manner?

They only have to post an update in the thread.
If the thread is that long that its might take a long time to read it, one might think the reader would see that based on how many replies were made to that post. If one didn't have time, they could just go to the last page to see the status. I know at least one item recently had that same issue. But how often does that really happen?

When I am following an item that I may be interested in, when I login and go to the FM, I see the list of bookmarked threads I'm watching and click on it, then I immediately click "View First Unread" which takes me to the, well the 1st unread post. I don't have the time to re-read every post that I already read, esp if its a long thread. I expect that if there are any changes or updates that they will be new posts.

Honestly, these forums require reading. They require time. If one doesn't have time or bother to read, well, then maybe reading and writing on a forum is not the right thing to do. Like has been said before, there are + and - to the rule. And in the end it is a Polk Management decision. This is not a by the people for the people forum. People at my workplace can **** and fuss all day long about how they're inconvenienced because they can't get to their favorite social networking site or photobucket, etc, but that doesn't mean that the rulemakers didn't have a good and valid reason for implementing such controls.

Justin already stated that he is looking into some way to ease the restrictions on the FM. I only hope that whatever decision is made, that it works out in the end.

If you need to delete a thread or modify one, ask a moderator ( i.e. -Justin- )

I did send Justin a PM to ask why I couldn't edit a post, but that was before I read and responded to this thread. He has not replied, but I am sure that this is not a top priority of his. I would at least expect a comment to this or other threads. I didn't see this edit issue in FAQ, but I could have missed it. Maybe a clarification is in order. Again, I am not trying to be a pain, just understand the situation.

if anything reported, admin should get hard copy of what went on when people click report thread. A copy that wont be edited if thread was edited after reported.

I owned a forum before same kind as this forum. There are many awesome features for admin to use without headache. I could see what was originally said after reported and see if that person had edited the comment. It wasnt difficult because admin controls everything at finger tip.

wanted to share this, i just read whole thread. How many moderators on polk forums?
