Everyone here who likes speakers and has the fundage should by a pair of the Monitor 40's, even if they just sit in the closet for a while. SUPER speaker, and the eBay store price is nuts.

Yesterday I received a Csi A6 Center that ordered from Polk Ebay on Fri. Yes, thats right one day Fed Ex service to my front door. Can't be that (though the distributor is in San Diego and I'm in L.A., but still...awesome)

I opened it up and I couldn't find a single mark or anything else that would suggest that it was not brand new. Perhaps the only difference was that the grill was already on the speaker -- I got a Rti A5s the day before new from Electronics Expo, that's why I even noticed this. But the Csi A6 looks absolutely brand new...go for it.

In fact, I'm just about to order a pair of Rti A1s from Polk Ebay, as well. Shoot, with all the money I'm spending lately you wouldn't think we were in a recession or anything...

I almost bought Monitor 40's for 180.00 IIRC over a year ago. Decided on the RTi6 instead. 99.00 per pair is a steal regardless. If I had a need I'd be all over that.

How does the monitor 40's sound?

I have the 40's as my surrounds and I think they sound great. They are big, very big bookshelfs. I love the sound that have. I paid 150 shipped to my door from new egg. Great Speakers.

I just got a set of the refurb RTi A3s yesterday via Polk Direct. Came out to ~ $190/shipped ($219 + $20sh + NJ 7% sales tax - 25% Live.com cashback). These are also spotless.

I've got them on 26-inch steel stands ~ 7 feet apart (8" off the back wall), ~ 9 feet from me as Marvin Gaye's What's Going On?, Elliott Smith's Figure 8, The Band's Music From Big Pink, Massive Attack's Mezzanine, and Queens of the Stone Ages' Lullabies to Paralyze circle through the changer. I like what I hear. They have a lot of low-end weight. I don't have a pair of RTi6 around to compare them against, but they might sound more refined.

Now they have LSi7s for $349. That's incredible, but I'm a rock and roll bluesman at heart and like my punchy RTis.

It's hellish isn't it having to decide between LSis and RTiAs. I went with LSis because my main interests are jazz and classical. But then I just discovered Stevie Ray Vaughan. Luckily he sounds OK even on LSis :D.

At these prices...why not get both? If we can't stimulate the entire US economy, we can at least stimulate Polk.

That's pretty much the conclusion I came to - for my listening tastes.

    I kept my RTiA3s over a pair of LSi7s.

For me - the upper details and open sound was better with the RTiA3s vs the LSi7s.

I've read that the xover mod for the LSi7s works wonders - but it all came down to cost.

At the price for refurbed A3s - sweet deal and sweet sound! :)

Just received my CSi A6 that I ordered on Saturday (5 days to Colorado, actually it didn't get processed and shipped 'til Monday, so 3 days).

As far as I can tell, it is NIB, and they scratched out the bar code on the end of the box and slapped a sticker on there that says "refurbished", but as far as I am concerned I got an NEW CSi A6.:D

None of my boxes had any refurbished stickers on them . Can't go wrong with POLK Direct.

I've had them for a few more days and have put them through their paces. My rig is fairly minimal (as seen in the sig) but quality nonetheless. I always engage "Tone Defeat" on the NAD and "Pure Direct" on the Denon, so I can get a feel for the speakers I hook up and not the rest of my gear (which I love). Some listening notes:

Wilco - Being There - The piano in "Misunderstood" is mastered to pan from left to right as it goes through the hook. I'd never noticed that before, though I've listened to this album a hundred times... in other words, these image well. Bass guitars are tight and distinct with these speakers, as are kick drums and toms. The bottom is very impressive and even a bit "hit you in the chest-ish."

The Dark Knight (DVD) - 2 channel home theater. Dialog was all fairly intelligible, though Nolan chose to have a whole lot of whispered scenes followed by KABOOM BASH BOOM BOOM which made it hard to find a good volume for late-night viewing. I digress. All those surprising booms came across with more than enough muscle to satisfy me and, I suspect, other apartment dwellers.

Gnarls Barkley - The Odd Couple - The "Maggot Brain" like lead guitar line of "Going On" bleeds out of these speakers with strong air-guitar inducing powers. Again, very strong low end from (admittedly slightly large) bookshelf speakers.

At the Polk Direct price, these are a great bargain. I don't really know anything else that touches them in this price range. Axiom? Epos? Those are all a hundred or so more with smaller drivers. RTi A3 FTW.

Yes they do. But I don't think they leave it until you leave it-At least that's been my experience.

i got some fxi3's and rti a5's from them, and they left feedback for both. It was a little annoying to find out that they don't leave feedback till after you do though... That's just usually not the way it's done. As long as the buyer pays on time and doesn't cause any trouble, I think they've fulfilled their end of the bargain. Maybe since they sell refurb'ed stuff they are protecting themselves against people with unresonable claims though, I don't know. Also- I think it was a bad move for ebay to not allow sellers to leave negative feedback anymore.

Polk customer service is way above and beyond too. When my a5's arrived one of the silver plastic feet was cracked during shipping. I emailed customer service to find out if I could buy a set of replacement feet and they just told me they would take care of it by sending me one free even though it wasn't their fault.

I said that the barcode on the outside of the box was blacked out, and the refurb sticker was on the outside of the box. They still had serial numbers.

just out of curiosity, is there any way to use the serial number to check if the speakers are refurb instead of new. I've always wondered if some of the people on ebay selling polks as new are just selling refurbs and taking the sticker off the box... I guess to be safe, just always buy from polk direct if you're buying off ebay.

Many times I did not receive feedback from a company until I left feedback. I think these busy companies just leave feedback when they are reminded, after seeing a buyers feedback come in. Just my opinion.

Unless you are buying from a polk authorized retailer, a missing serial number or a refurb under the disguise as new, the serial # won't matter anyway as Polk won't honor the warranty.

The 'refurbs' on Polkdirect via ebay are essentially new (not returned as anybody has been able to determine) and they do in fact have serial numbers and have the factory warranty intact.

Some of the speakers I got there either have the original stickers on the outside of the box, or a refurb sticker placed over top of the original.

As far as polk direct, it is a policy and not just due to the fact that they didn't remember. I know because I asked them if they could leave me some feedback while I was waiting for my speakers (took a long time due to snow here), and they told me they don't leave feedback until after the customer does. So far they are the only ones I've bought from that have that policy, but I can kind of understand it now that ebay doesn't let sellers leave negative feedback. They've kind of tilted things toward the buyer, so it's a way to protect yourself as a seller in some small way I guess.

    to mmadden28-
I was just wondering about the serial number thing not for the warranty but just to know if there was a way to find out based on the number whether you bought a product being represented as new which was really refurbished. I probably wouldn't buy from a non-authorized dealer anyway- but just wondering. Both of the sets of speakers I bought from polk direct also did have serial numbers and a refurbished sticker on the outside of the box. With them- of course you know exactly what you are getting.

Would be nice to know. As far as somebody taking the refurb sticker off the box, I think you would be able to detect that as they place it over the original label and you would see it. Then again, some of them that I got as refurbs did not have refurb stickers on the outside. I'm sure Polk can figure it out though.

As far as refurb status, again it appears that so far the speakers are essentially new-never opened. Nobody yet has reported what appeared to be previously owned speakers-so far everybody has reported that they appeared to be brand new , as ALL of the ones I got have been. Now if its a store selling its returns as refurbs (not necessarily Factory refrubs, then I would imagine the product was originally sold as new and would not have serial numbers replaced or known to Polk as refurbs.

I guess the only real way to find out is to ask a Polk CS rep. ;)

EDIT: I just looked at the list of my registers speakers and some of them were refurbs and some were new-there is nothing distinguishable between the serial #s (such a "R" in it or anything) they appear standard
