Anyone interested in this? I can't believe they are going to remake this with "Neo". Are they really going to try and ruin another classic for me (first they tried to kill flight of the pheonix for me). From the trailer I saw, things seem to be blowing up. Except for a couple of tanks disapearing, nothing blew up in the original. If they are going to change the whole movie, change the name!

I saw these commercials, I'm amazed by how many recognizable people there are. Quite the ensemble cast.

Remakes shouldn't take anything away from the original; just pretend the new one doesn't exist :)
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

Trying to keep an open mind but I looks like they may go special effects big time and lose the very effective subtle nature of the original.

I'm actually looking forward to The Day the Earth Stood Still. Sometimes a remake turns out good but most don't.

Nah! Reeves is great for the role - he's about as stiff as the guy who played him in the original!

This one looks good to me. Ill definitely check it out. Probably in the theater but at least on rental.

I personally like classics being remade. With the extreme FX Hollywood has these days, its cool to see old movies with a new take.

I dunno. A remake might be good, although I'm personally dubious about Reeves but, as I already mentioned, this role might suit him well.

I loved the original "War of the Worlds" & loved the remake as well.

So it might be good. Hey, it could happen!

JMO, but I'm gonna say that the ORIGINAL message of the movie get's lost in the SFX.

Remakes never hurt. Some of these old films need it anyway. There just too old, and too outdated.

Agreed Ron - just some do not. I think I have a few memorable classics in my portfolio and this happens to one of them. IMO, it would be like remaking The Great Escape or To Kill A Mockingbird. A couple more of my favorites.
This was the first Sci-fi film I watched as a kid.

So you have these originals and the memories to go with them. Don't watch the remakes, it's not like these remakes would have any affect on what you already have.

Who knows, maybe some of these remakes will inspire some to go back and see the original for the first time, something they might not have even known existed until they saw the remake first.

I heard on the news today that this movie will be the first to be shot into deep space until the year 2012. That's just great, alien life forms will be seeing a movie showing them attacking us with Keanu Reeves.

+1, cinephile priorities notwithstanding. The early Star Wars, Close Encounters and others could all be vastly improved with upgraded FX and sound IMO.

Sound, sure. Effects, hardly. The models in the early SW films still put to shame most anything CGI today.

Um... then watch new movies that they aren't in? ;)

There are dozen's of releases every week, just 'cause they don't hit the Theater doesn't mean they are terrible!

    Ditto!

Yes, the original had a stronger message. I don't think Keanu will have a sack of diamonds, nor will he deliver the message properly.

Lastly, the remake will disgrace the original, reviews have already said it.

One question for myself, why do I even care? I'm 25!!!

I think Reeves could be fine. True, his name shouldnt even be mentioned in the same sentence as Anthony Hopkins, Robert DeNiro or Gary Oldman but he is good for certain parts. I liked him in Constantine, Point Break and definitely Matrix. He's a good enough actor that he can pull off the part if its right.

Thinking about checking this one out tomorrow night with some friends. Its either this one or Twilight - and since Im not a 13 year old female Ill probably pass on Twilight.

It wasn't boring but the ending was anti-climatic. Very predictable. I have not seen the original.

Reeves actually did a decent job. Connelly is cute as usual. F/x was interesting but at times looked like a video game. I kinda felt like I was watching The Happening 2. Ouch.

It's missing the awe, wonder, and grandeur of something like Close Encounter.

    Rental.
