Fix GM & Ford: US Loan to Honda & Toyota to buy them!

Well we all know that management in GM & Ford in screwed up, and giving the a bridge loan will equate to a "bridge loan to nowhere" much like the Alaska "bridge to nowhere"

So here is what we should do.

Give Toyota/Honda/Hyundai a very favorable long term loan to purchase GM/Ford/Chrysler and fold them into their operations.

That would be sweet, the new 2010 Cadillac built on a Hyundai chassis.

I think they'd decline. Maybe that Indian company would go for it..
They were stupid enough to buy Jag.

I still like the idea of having the oil companies give them the loads they want/need. Since they have mutual interests, it seems like a no-brainer to me.

If you were Honda, would you REALLY want to be associated with Ford/Chevy/Chrysler? They're sinking ships and have a LOT of damage attached to them.

The only reason to "save" those companies would be to help the American economy; selling the companies to an overseas corporation would achieve this HOW?

I wouldn't mind giving them the money (the bail out) but I'd want to see the unions disbanded and a change of their name to Obamaerlet.

One of the Chinese automakers will definitely look at such an offer. Buick is a big success for GM in China.

We shouldn't bail them out, in my opinion. Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing would allow them to survive, restructure and move ahead. A bailout simply funds all the reasons they are in the predicament they are in a little longer. Someone posted an article written by Mitt Romney, and for once I agree with him.

You guys really think the US Government would LOAN MONEY to ANOTHER COUNTRY to HELP them take away one of the largest single contributors to our economy? Really?

Also, Japanese automakers. Chinese automakers exist, but they're not exactly ... well, good.

Some people just don't realize how VERY important these industrial GIANTS are to the economy and infrastructure of the US and North America as a whole.

But as I have always said, the Unions have to disband or make some realistic consessions.

    I agree.

Honda builds a superior product to all 3. it's there own fault they are where they are. Look in the mirror GM/Ford and Chrysler, and see what you have become. shame on all of you.

Yes we do. We also understand they could be a bottomless money pit.
The management and unions suck in Detroit. Fire them all and start over.
It's like at American Airlines a few years ago. They got the union to
take a 10% cut accross the board. They then decided the best way
to spend the money was on executive bonuses. The rot starts at the top.
Dumping the union would drop the average car price $2000. Yet, what would I buy?
Other than a truck, they don't make a car I'd own. How do you fix
dead innovation. Other than Corvette, they have sucked the life out of the company.
Make a good mid-size that's reliable and doesn't look butt ugly.
    Watch the buyers come back.

I disagree with the comments that American cars/trucks/suv's, etc. are not worth buying. In fact, the truth is quite the opposite.

Personally, I hate Honda's and they absolutely suck in Formula One. Although, I think they may have finally got the exploding engine issues under control.

I thought Chrysler had something with that Chrysler 300

And then what did they do? Give you a choice between a gas sucking V6, an even more gas sucking V6, and a super gas-pig V8.

I rented one and liked it. I stopped by a dealer (this was like 05 or 06?) and asked what they had in a fuel efficient 4-cylinder model.

They just laughed. So I hopped in my 30+ MPG 4-cylinder Toyota Solara and left.

I'd love to see what kind of mileage youd get in a 4 cylinder 300. Probably about 12mpg for one tank until the engine blew up from the stress of trying to move that heavy **** car around.

I started to argue with that, I was going to say no it would just be slower. Heck, my Solara is 3200lbs and a 300 is like 3700lbs not much difference.

But then I remember oh yeah we're talking about a US designed four cylinder LOL

    You mean the Wagner Act?

I think most level headed people would say the US automakers problems have just as much to do with management, if not more, than with Unions.

Wow. I don't believe I've ever heard a more ridiculous proposition than that of putting a 4-cylinder in a Chrysler 300.

    A Toyotal Solara weighs 3200lbs.

    A Chrysler 300 with a 6cyl weight 3700lbs.

If you didn't have the weight of the engine, a C 300 with a 4cyl could weigh 3500lbs

    If my Solara works just fine with a 4cyl at 3200lbs, why wouldn't a 300 weighing 3500 ??

But that's the US automakers view. 0-60 is all important, screw gas costs and importing oil.

I prefer not sending my money off to support terrorists in the middle east waiting to attack the USA

Perhaps a minor mistake isn't magnified for decades when the Unions are out of the way? The Japanese managers can't that be that much smarter (aside from not allowing Unions into their plants) than the US managers.

Perhaps the managers COULD make levelheaded decisions without having to consult a Union boss for every nitpicky thing on the floor?
